Winners POS

I was at my local Winners store this weekend. It's like Gourdmans or TJ Maxx in the US. For years they had had these tiny monochrome screens and tractor printers for their POS system. It was horribly antequated and was in need of a refresh.
So, I notice they all finally have nice new terminals with touch screens and keyboards at each cachier. But all of them have a printed out paper taped onto the keyboard saying "Remember, don't touch the keyboard". When I ask the cashier why they can't touch the keyboard and can only use the touch screen, she simply tells me that "the system for the whole store will freeze and need to be rebooted".
Nice. Quite an upgrade.

I suspect that answer is 1 of 3 things:
a) The cashier was being sarcastic
b) It's one of the corporate training schemes
c) Someone is fucking with them
If' it's (c) then hahahahahaha! Awesome!

This reminds me of the story about the "DO NOT RUN THIS SCRIPT" script... where a guy ran it because he wanted to see what it does... drops the production database!
There has to be one clerk (if this is true) that accidently dropped his/her cellphone on the keyboard causing a giant "HOLY CRAP" to be yelled out by someone!

If only Opera completely implemented GreaseMonkey capability. Most scripts don't work, so I don't even try anymore. Maybe I'll get around to testing it out and fixing any problems I encounter.

I've always liked how Point of Sale has exactly the same acronym as Piece of Sh*t. It's rather fitting.

The real WTF? 10 years later it's still in use. By multiple shops.
How do I know? I was contacted to fix it after 64K items had been sold. Personally, I think 64K sales should be enough for anybody.

This can usually be disabled in the BIOS

Yeah. I think it was hacked, and the owner just shut it down because they give no fucks.
I think https://greasyfork.org/en scraped up all the scripts, mirrored them, and is the new de-facto userscript source.

@sloosecannon Just wait until you're trying to make a script that uses document.getElementsByTagName() and reference it just like an array and spend a bit troubleshooting until realizing the special individuals at W3C decided to make it a "HTMLCollection".

I did that for a previous job where we had to hook into a site made by a third-party we had no influence over.
The best one was where I created a whole tagging system that added a new property to elements, like:
<a href="blah.com", foobarref="BODY0-DIV2-DIV0-SPAN0">
So then I could refer to tags buy their foobarref in place of meaningful classes or IDs. Which the site had zero of.

@Lorne-Kates If you just did bog standard for loop iteration you're fine; nodelists/htmlcollections/wtf-array-likes have length properties.
If you tried to use array methods on the other hand...
