Do you have lots of pictures of yourself?

• There's this chick that I've been dating and I just got to see her
apartment last night. The thing is, she has pictures of herself all
over the place.  I don't mean pictures of herself and friends as a
group in the same picture.  Oh no.  She has framed pictures
of herself hung on walls in her house.  There's one on her
TV.  "is that you?" I ask.  "Yeah, that's when I graduated
college."  There's one on the wall about 5 feet from the TV.
"uh, is that you?" I ask.  "Yeah" she says, apparently not getting
that I'm asking for a freaking explaination.

anyway, the only thing I could think was, WTF??

• Bail.

...but first get that last roll-in-the-hay--no reason to waste a trip to the apartment, gas is expensive these days.

• My parents have lots of those small transparent slides stored in several dozens of large boxes and I am on about one-third of those. My parents also have this big projector so we can all see them when we're bored which fortunately almost never happens. My dad is planning to scan them all in his computer but fortunately he still hasn't found any time for that either. I'm not that fond of pictures of me because I always tend to have a funny look, or an angry look, or i've spilled something over my clothing or whatever. So I'm happy about the way those pictures are stored right now. [:)]

standard operating procedure is that one does not bail until one has another source of lovin' all lined up.  That might take a while.  In the mean time, I'll just treat her like shit.

Good plan.  Seriously.  Might even lead to more rolls in the hay, and the removal of a few of those photos.  Either way, this one is definitely too high-maintenance for the long haul.

Good luck.

Holy crap.  Been lurking here a while, and my first post is on the fine points of "dating."

• OTOH, she might not have the annoying habit of calling herself ugly to evoke compliments.

I disagree.  This one is obviously (to the degree that I can accurately judge someone I've never met based on a few lines of comment from someone else I've never met) an attention-whore.  Because of this, she is likely to do just about anything to get the attention and/or compliments that she desires.

By (my) definition, she is therefore too high-maintenance for long term.  My advice:  get all the rolls you can for the least financial commitment and move on.

• I say, just give it a try and don't be put off by first impressions. But I totally second the advice on maximization of #rolls and minimization of commitment.

• Has anyone ever thought that this poor girl might suffer from some form of mental retardation? Maybe she needs all those photos around to remind herself of what she looks like. Wouldn't it be tragic if she glanced into a mirror only to find a complete stranger staring back at her? Then again though, I am an optimist... It is probably more likely she is just narcissistic.

It's certainly fair to suspect this of anyone who dates the likes of me.

Wear your raincoat, too.  Unless you want to see minimization of commitment turn into 18 years of child support.

• Yeah, maybe she's like Leonard Shelby from the film "Memento".

Does she take lots of polaroids of you, and seem suprised every time you show up?

Memento? Seen never have you assume I. Conclusion that to came you, sentence simple a such is it because, how see can I but, Yoda not am I, no.

• Oh come on give her a break...

There could be lots of reasons she has loads of photos of herself. e.g.
Too much self confidence...or the complete opposite - lack of it. Maybe
having pictures of her where she looks good makes her feel happier
about herself... or maybe she's just proud of what she's achieved?

If you genuinely like her... just accept it. It's not really a big deal is it?

• @janey said:

The issue isn't having photos though. It's hanging them on the
wall. Everybody has pix of themselves.  I have a box of them, and
more on the computer.  I'll happily show them to anyone who is
interested.  Hanging them on the wall though, as if you're a movie
star is completely different. It's just a little bit self-centered.

Come on. Be honest. If you went to a guy's house and he had a picture
of himself on top of his TV, and a pic of himself next to his bed,
you'd think he was an arrogant SOB!

She's a nice person, but it really is obvious that she thinks the world
revolves around her.  It kind of cracks me up.  When I buy
her flowers or do something nice for her, you can just tell that she's
thinking, "yep, I totally deserve this."

No way is she marriage material!  I absolutely guarantee you that
she will cheat on me at the very first opportunity that comes
along.  Why wouldn't she?  She deserves to have whatever she
wants.  lol

@janey said:

I accept her, but who said I like her?  I like having sex.
I'm a guy.  Millions of years of evolution has programmed me to
like having sex.  A couple of generations ago, we had a
civilization that encouraged acceptance (and commitment and devotion)
from men.  This was accomplished by having women demand it in
exchange for sex.  "If you marry me and help take care of the
kids, then I will have sex with you."  And that worked well
because guys will do just about anything for sex.  At some point,
women got this weird idea that it was liberating and empowering to give
it away for free.  Kind of like McDonalds deciding that capitalism
is keeping them down, so they're going to give away Big Macs.
Nobody is going to argue with them.  If they're really that
stupid, then everyone will just get out of the way and let them do it.

So anyway, no I don't genuinely like her.  I'm just going to have
sex with her since she says it's ok for me to.  Hopefully one day
I'll find a girl who will demand respect from me.  I'm not sure
there are any left, but I'm looking.

that was very well said.

Sex is how the female keeps a male.  It is kind of like how a guy will apologize for a fight because he knows if he doesnt he wont get any sex.  That is what holds a relationship together the guys need for sex, and if that guy can get sex for free without the need to make the women happy, the relationship will fall apart.

Does the notion that ladies (but not sluts) can have sexual urges as strongly as men make you feel sick and dirty? Does the idea that men can love and cherish their families and stabilty seem old-fashioned and lame? Then you may be a lonely guy wondering why no women ever see what a nice guy you are.

No i know that women like having sex.  Also, I beleive in finding someone i love and have a family.  I just simply like to look at things in a different perspective.

If you look at a humans basic needs (based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs )  you need to fulfill your physological needs before you can experience true love.  One of the physiological needs being sex.  Our human instincts drive us for sex, and it is sex that makes us want to be with another person initially.  It is not till we find the person we feel safe, we can build an emotion relationship with a person.  But, if you understand the hierarchy of needs, if any of the lower needs are not being met. the ones above it will eventualy cease.  Why do you think sex is so important in a marrage.

Hopefully i explained myself clear enough for you.

Can you point to any part of plazmo's post, or any of my posts, that suggest we believe that?

Maslow's hierarchy of needs has more holes in it than a good Swiss cheese.  There are loads of examples of people who will disregard their physiological needs in favour of needs further up the pyramid: Tibetan monks setting themselves on fire, suicide bombers, hunger strikers, anybody basically that deprives their physiological needs for somebody or something they value more than themselves.  Not just extremists: a poor parent that puts food on their child’s plate even though they go hungry.
