Upgrading to java 1.1.6 - another forums wtf

  •  I saw this on the java developer forums today, and thought this guy is a troll, but he looks to be fo'real:

    post taken from here

    ---

Hello I am current working with my other coders in our new upgrade for
our java application version. After almost 2 years of "stabilise" the
code we are now ready for major upgrade to version 1.1.6 from 1.0.2. In
past we have had many problems with new version but now we are
confident of changes working and also we have made a copy of the codes
on hard drive to "rollback" if we have errors. I am trying to find list
of changes from 1.0.2 to 1.1.6 but cannot see them on Sun website? I
need them for making "risk" document my manager has said must be
written and reviewed by manager commitee before we can make change.
Please tell me any change from 1.0.2. I have these changes before from
last time but I lose them.

as someone pointed out in the thread this poster has a very entertaining post history

    Downgrade of 1.1 to 1.0.2

Hello friend. 1 year ago I upgrade company application from 1.0.2 to
1.1 version of java. Unfortunately since upgrade we have had many
problem. I even try to upgrade to 1.2.2 but also we have problem with
this version. My boss now say he want to roll back to version 1.0.2 to
see if this fix errors. Only problem is we not version application 1
year ago and we have made many changes. What is best way to see if new
changes may not work? Please respond.

  • To be fair, I pity anyone tasked with moving a legitimate AWT application from Java 1.0 up to the modern day.   Of course, given this guy's posting record, I don't think that's the problem.

  • Incredible! That's just brightened my day no end!

  • I wouldn't be surprised if one of the "bugs" he encountered in Java 1.1 was that Thread.suspend() and its brethren stopped working. I have seen people try to use those methods in 21st-century code. And yes, it's an epic WTF to even try.

Oh man we should have a WTF section dedicated to his posts alone. This guy is awsome!

    Wait: BEST QUOTE EVER:

"When I press number in calculator I not need to "format" but in java
just to see all number I need format! This is problem of java and need
    sun developer to fix.
    "

  • Some RANDOM Bizzarro quotes from this guy:

JochimSauer I am useing java 1.0.2 and it not print all number...

After much attempting to help this fella there is a quote:

I am use format like your answer... I think java is not good for this
though. Is very bad to have to do these thing. Thank you for your help.

From a Java developer's mouth to your ears... (text to text i guess)

Some people are not only new to java but new to computers and forums.
Is not easy for them to post first question 100% correct but if they do
not they get rude reply and most never post here again. This is not
    good for java.

I guess a "new to computers" person should be responsible for giving risk assessments for upgrading to a different java version.

    Precision?

Brilliant indeed. Make fun of the guy for not understanding something you can't even spell.

Ah that, yea my spelling sucks ass.

Also you REALLY remind me of the assholes who troll around forums looking for spelling mistakes and then start flaming people "You can't spell boo freakety hoo"

    Hmm.

That wasn't just a typo or spelling mistake.

That was obviously a complete lack of understanding of how to spell a simple word. To the point I doubt google would have been able to help you if you actually needed to learn something about precision.

But YOU chose to make fun of a dude who is exhibiting similar stupidity.

  • Wait so precision is spelled with a c or an s? Wait oh noes i can't figure it out SAVE ME GRAND MASTERPLANSOFTWARE! What will I does without you!?!?!?!

    Btw more brilliance!

I am having one doubt about what 'type' mean? Pls explain in detail.

Ok maybe he just does not know english well right?

Type: the class or instance that defines the reference.

    And some more

    List list = new ArrayList();

The bold part is the type of the reference list.

Of course this is obvious to him...

If I have my variable called 'a' what is type?

  • @dlikhten said:

    Persission

    Precision

    I don't know about you, but that doesn't look like a matter of a c or s.

So theres deffinately no Xs or Qs in there right? What about an N, B, Z, D, or Double L? Wait is that english? Damnit! Can you translate into Random? HELP ME GRAND MASTER!

He actually shunned someone for posting a link to Java tutorial when a guy asked for "What are Types". He claimed that they should answer the question completely in that forum, not reference someone to some reading material... He later went on to actually ask what is a Type in that same thread, after giving advice on it.

Always fun.  I think this was my favorite:

    I'm no mathematician, but:

    lim(x) = 1 means exactly that x can not be 1. So concluding x = 1 as a result is incorrect IMO.

But the other proofs are okay with me.

He got one thing right.  He's no mathematician.

  • I still don't see how people can debate .999... = 1? Its simple, there are THREE mathematical proofs to it. Do they need it printed on the side of the dildo shoved up their nose? Like whats next, they gona dispute the laws of physics (I love how freshmen start arguing with Physics PHDs about how gravety does pull things at different rates[happened in my wife's class]).

    Also How does he get

    lim(x) = 1 means exactly that x can not be 1. So concluding x = 1 as a result is incorrect IMO.

Does he even know what lim(x) stands for? Has he heard of this thing called math? 2+2 = java 1.0.6!

Wait wait here comes a quote (from 2007)

Yes we are in same problem. We use internet explorer 4.01 😞

Despite all attempts at reason, he refuses to go straight to a good version like 1.5... he wants to go 1.0 -> 1.1 -> 1.2 -> 1.3 -> 1.4 -> 1.5 And each step takes 1 yr about haha!

  • @dlikhten said:

That has to be one of the most random and disturbing statements I've ever seen.

Agreed. It shows an obvious lack of understanding of the mechanics involved in intercourse.

WHOA! Now there's absolutely no excuse for that. Even companies with the strictest installation policies would've allowed an upgrade to 6 by then.

    I prefer to make massive jumps that result in me falling into a new language basically (GW-BASIC -> QBASIC 4.5 -> VB3 -> VB6 -> C# 2.0)

I fear that such a "jump" would result in him spending 3 years resarching the risks involved and switch to java 1.0.2 because .toString on a double does not read his mind 😞
