I officially work with dilbert

  • just received this email:

The phone and network systems that were affected by yesterday's ice storm have gone back down. The network is now running on the backup connections, but the phone systems are completely down. If you have any questions, please contact the Helpdesk at x300. We will update you when we have more information.

  • Win98 help for checking ones internet connection had one bogus solution, and then suggested one went to MS' website to get more assistance.

You mean it was actually a thunderstorm? Or maybe even a firestorm? Earthquake? Volcano? Meteorite? Truck crashing into the building?

No, I am sure he means ice storm.

Nope. None to be found. Thanks.

    Come again soon.

  • Our latest release was delayed because armed men broke into our server room and stole everything earlier this week.  Not quite as WTFy, but a way cooler reason for an outage than an ice storm.

    Government raids are fun.

Say, just how do you "get up from your ass and go" to a telephone number, anyway?

    Oooh, a sarcasm detector - that's a real useful inventio-...<KABOOM>

  • DaveK... it says "get up and go contact the Helpdesk".  You lose.

  • If you have any questions, please get up from your butt, buttuming you are sitting down of course, and go contact the Helpdesk at the place where you'd expect the telephone to which the extension x300 is normally buttigned to be and please try your best not to complain about long sentences because we don't want to hear aboub reast.

    How about now?

Wouldn't work at my place.  Helpdesk is in India.

  • Ice has knocked out the external phone and data connections.  Why is it a WTF that your internal systems still work?  You've never heard of a PBX or Exchange Server?

If you work with Dilbert, I guess that means you are Wally?   Ratbert?  The PHB?

I was going to say the same thing, but considering they are thinking about moving all of our servers to the overlord HQ in another state, as well as go with a different phone system (assumingly to integrate the company as a whole), I think we'd be in the same boat if a storm hit. As it stands, our phones and e-mail work as long as we have internal power because we have a PBX and Exchange Server.

  • No, you officially are Dilbert.  It's his cow-orkers that pull this sort of retarded shit, remember?

Maybe he was the one who sent the email, and he was on the distribution list so he also got the email.  That would make everyone else Dilbert, and make him the PHB.

Hey, here in Southern California they told us the other day that we'd have "thundersnow", which they claimed was very common in the Midwest. I lived in the MIdwest for 25 years and never once heard the term "thundersnow."
