Super Cow Powers

  • OK, this is not a WTF, but I thought it was funny. If you have Ubuntu installed (or some other Linux that uses apt), try typing:

    apt-get help

    Notice that the last line says "This APT has Super Cow Powers.", then type

    apt-get moo

    And you get a nice ascii cow:

             (__)
             (oo)
       /------\/
      / |    ||
     *  /\---/\
        ~~   ~~
    ...."Have you mooed today?"...

  • whoa, i'm not even going to point out what the real WTF is here.

  • lol, wow.

    welcome to debian/ubuntu.

  • Not a WTF :D Just a nice bit of GPL humor :) Neat. I like humor evei in my server.

  • Welcome to a lot of years ago.

  • I always install Cowsay and sl on all my servers. :-P

  • Try doing a aptitude help. You'll notice the "This aptitude does not have Super Cow Powers" line. Of course, it does have said powers

    Do a aptitude moo. Then, aptitude -v moo. Then, aptitude -vv moo. And so on.

  • Since I already had a ssh session going, I figured I would post the results...

     (edited for length and details of course)

    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ apt-get help
    -- Normal Help File Clipped --
                           This APT has Super Cow Powers.
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ apt-get moo
             (__)
             (oo)
       /------\/
      / |    ||
     *  /\---/\
        ~~   ~~
    ...."Have you mooed today?"...
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ aptitude help
    -- Normal Help File Clipped --
                      This aptitude does not have Super Cow Powers.
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ aptitude moo
    There are no Easter Eggs in this program.
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ aptitude -v moo
    There really are no Easter Eggs in this program.
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ aptitude -vv moo
    Didn't I already tell you that there are no Easter Eggs in this program?
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ aptitude -vvv moo
    Stop it!
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ aptitude -vvvv moo
    Okay, okay, if I give you an Easter Egg, will you go away?
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ aptitude -vvvvv moo
    All right, you win.

                                   /----\
                           -------/      \
                          /               \
                         /                |
       -----------------/                  --------\
       ----------------------------------------------
    user@UbuntuMachine:~$ aptitude -vvvvvv moo
    What is it?  It's an elephant being eaten by a snake, of course.

  • good job reading the aptitute help for the first time ever.

  • (07:33 AM) ~ > emerge moo

  • You cannot really appreciate this unless you were a Debian developer several years ago, it's an in-joke.

    <Culus> I recommend we all begin mooing.
    <Culus> Mooing solves everything

    <tausq_> davej has quit (Moo.)
    <tausq_> Culus: see what you've done?
    <tausq_> :>
    <Culus> davej?
    <tausq_> Culus: random person from #kernelnewbies
    <Culus> tausq: Excellent, the corruption spreads

    Cowsay and all the others are mere imitations of Culus.

    Is there a way to disable the html/iframe/etc editor, without disabling javascript everywhere?

  • There is an option in your profile options

    Under Site Options find content editor and change it to plain-text

    Note: You will have to manually add br or p tags.

    Sorry, the telepathic version is still about five years out from a gold release.

    Try espdiff from patchutils.

    Nope. SMF 2.1 has it, and I was not in favour of its inclusion for technical reasons.

    Well, well, well .... if it isn't Jo Shmid.
