I'm posting this to find out if anyone else gets as mad as I do. It's a small inconvenience, but it pisses the hell out of me.
When you have IE open and begin to type a web address into the Address Bar, IE will dropdown your history with the URLs matching, so-far, what you've typed. If you stop half-way and notice that IE has brought up the site you want in the list, you also notice that IE has highlighted that top history entry. I think, "hey there it is, and it's highlighted for me, just gotta click ENTER".
Once you click enter, though, it just tries to locate your half-written URL.
WTF!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. and if you're especially lucky, it launches the MSN search page
that helpfully tells you it can't find anything about "www.theda"

Use the Open command, CTRL-L. I'm not sure if the behavior is any different, but I've personally had no trouble with it.
What really kills me is windows and controls steal focus. It seems to
happen a lot in web applications. Load a login page via a mobile link,
start typing in your credentials. Boom! All the graphics have finally
finished loading just as you're about to finish typing your password,
and suddenly the username textbox or no textbox has the keyboard focus
(depending on the page or your browser).
And this one's even worse: Start loading a bunch of pages in separate
tabs in Safari. Start reading one of them. As the other pages finish
reading, they pop up to become the foremost tab! Argh!!! Imagine the
scenario where you're looking at search results, and you open a half
dozen results in new tabs, then start reading the first one. You pretty
much have to wait for them to all finish before you can start reading.
This is espeically fun when I use my favorite dating/matchup site which
typically takes about 5 - 10 seconds to download a profile page during
prime time.
Okay, done ranting.

You know what's funny? Mozilla behaves exactly the same as IE in this regard.
Presumably in order to feel familiar to users who just switched :D
Now, if Firefox does it right when Mozilla doesn't, that's a WTF!

Well, I just started my old Mozilla to check your objection, but I had
to find out, that Mozilla exactly behaves like Firefox does:
- you type your URL halfways
- Mozilla/Firefox shows a list of proposals
- you have to type [down arrow] to highlight an entry in the list
There is no auto-selected entry in the list and there is no
auto-completed highlighted text in the URL edit field, that is lost
upon pressing [enter].
So would you mind to check truth of your objections before bashing on Mozilla/Firefox?

open, and close one, the LAST TAB gets focus, instead of the naturally

Install the Tab Mix extension, then open its options, goto Events tab, and find:
"When closing a tab focus [combo box]"
Select "last selected" in the combo box, and your problem is solved.

Agreed the highlighting is annoying. BUT, in both firefox and exploder, the design is to type
www.goog <TAB> <ENTER>
to retreive the item from your history dropdown. I had to retrain my fingers, but it works.
The only browser I know of with better designed auto-complete here is Safari.

Well, in my Firefox (no special extensions or configurations, I think),
it's the tab AFTER the one I just closed. Which is actually the
behaviour I like best. Going back to the previous tab would be damn
annoying. I use tabs very intensively, e.g. to open all the
intersting-looking search results after a google query. Then I want to
look at those one after another, not go back to the search results page
every time I close one.

In that matter, Netscape was (my optimistic side hopes it changed in the most recent versions at least) is when you start typing and it finds a result, it already places the whole string in the field and selected, therefore if you continue typing the url, it erases everything you previously typed and continues from an empty string. The behaviour in Mozilla USED to be to complete it as the user typed,
and go to the completed page if they hit enter halfway. Isn't
that nice, you'd think? Except... if the page was https and you hadn't
typed https it would ignore it.... and if you often went to

What's really starting to piss me off is that web sites seemed to have finally caught on (apparently all at the same time) to accelerator keys for text boxes. Now, these features aren't bad and they really help if you're using an alternate device to browse the web (for instance a braille reader). But why do these asshats always choose accelerator keys that are standard windows keys? I use accelerator keys heavily in order to operate my machine at speeds previously unknown to man, and it irks me to not be able to ALT-F-C my IE window because someone thought "Hey, let's tie ALT-F to our "Find" textbox and not bother telling anyone about it." ALT-F4 isn't an accelerator that can be easily type without taking your hands off your home row of keys and due to the same kind of annoying behavior of stealing focus you might end up ALT-F4ing the wrong window anyway.

They say to me "but Firefox is more secure" to which I say "turn off ActiveX if you can figure out the whole five clicks it takes to do it." or better yet "stop clicking OK to install gator everytime it pops up and you'll stop having security warnings with an error code of: ID10T" /shrug

It really REALLY bugs me. But not as much as Visual Studio's copying of empty rows!
Place marker on an empty row and hit ctrl+c and VS copies an empty row! Arrgh!
