God damn Exception

  • Notepad++ has a nice way of telling that something has gone wrong:

  • I also like that everything is in German(or is that dutch) except the display position.

    I am impressed you noticed.

How long did you have to stare at the image to find it? ;)

It is Dutchlish. It is a mix between English and Dutch.

Yeah, "Switch Dialog" didn't sound very Dutch either.

  • And to think I only posted it for the "God damn exception".

The Dutchlish is a Bonus WTF.

  • Gotta add my own WTF find from this screenshot...

None of the english controls have accelerator keys, but all the Dutch/German controls do.

  • The whole UI looks like a one big WTF to me.

Make that all except one. Wissen lacks an accelerator. I'm almost disturbed I noticed that, too.

I don't think that's remarkable, given the translation instructions on their website:

        Translation HOWTO :

You can teach Notepad++ to speak your mother tongue : Just download english.xml and translate it into your language.

Notepad++ is an open source project, relying on its user community for translations. It seems to me someone started translating in Dutch and decided that releasing a half translated version was better than no translation at all.

I don't think it's that big of a WTF, just an instantiation of the Open Source principle "release early and release often".

Or an instantiatioin of the Open Source principle "not actively maintained anymore". Could be that the language file is just old.

  • The classic "open source" that means that only the author works on it and you can look if you're interested, but no-one really is...

  • But isn't Open Source teh shit???

  • The ratio shit/notshit is the same for open source as for commercial closed source.

At least for shitty open source you didn't lose any money over it.
