Samsung, bunch of *****

@Gribnit I can't possibly comprehend what makes me appear as a good candidate for a dating app based on my emails.

They don't make money off success yo
-
@Gribnit yeah, they make money off desperation. My emails are mostly nerdy newsletters and... oh.

Stock Android (or close to it) is clean but a bit boring
@stillwater said in Samsung, bunch of *****:
I have stock Android and it is boring indeed.
What does this even mean? Is anyone actually entertained by...whatever the fuck you guys are talking about? Like...the battery display or something?
I mean...a hassle to use vs easy to find stuff or whatever I could understand.
I don’t even have Android, but I feel similarly surprised.
The first thing I did on my iPhone was turn off all those annoying features like wallpaper parallax and the animations when you switch apps (what’s this, Win98?!). Curious that that’s in the “accessibility” section of the settings.
Proudly wearing that on my belt, I guess.

Ah, the "please waste my battery, yes constantly" settings.
-
@Gribnit With how powerful today’s embedded GPUs are, it probably doesn’t even make a difference. It’s just stupid.

It's the screen updating when it does not need to that I give the squinky eye to.

Samsung have a loyalty programme called 'Samsung Members'. Their website has an entire section dedicated to highlighting the benefits of joining.
The 'Sign up now' button links to the Samsung Account login page. After logging in, I end up on the same page (which looks exactly the same) and I'm... not logged in?

Oh, you got the second interview, is all. Get logged in.

Plus, there was money to be made.
Hmm. Given Samsung's level of shittiness, compounded with the design of that site-- I do have to wonder how much validation they have going on.
Maybe you can double-submit your claim, and get 2x. Or just tweak one number on the serial number, and generate a second claim. Or do whatever, just by disabling the client-side javascript validation.
Do it as many times as your risk:reward calculus allows.

@swayde I suggest finding a way to get them to send you return packaging for free, then mail them sand, until they go bankrupt.

Seriously, did they even test this form before it went live?
Let me tell you how the testing process works at Samsung:
- Open a giant excel file with test cases.
- Read an email from your Korean manager, saying that all tests have to pass.
- Put "PASS" in every result field in the excel file.
- Get rewarded on your yearly evaluation for keeping the managers happy.

IOW, copy/paste is your friend

Update time: The website still doesn't work. However, I got some mails from Samsung saying they've approved the cashback request as well as the free smart speaker request. Both will be processed within 6 weeks.
I didn't get a job offer though. ;)

You lack incompetence to work for them

Also, talking about the software on Samsung Galaxy phones...
When the original Galaxy S launched, it had Touchwiz on it. With every major revision it got worse, and Samsung have received heavy criticism for it.
They started tweaking it to make it better and more lightweight. They continued doing so until the software got into a state which was no longer recognisable as Touchwiz. At the end of 2016, it was rebranded as Samsung Experience. A software update for the Galaxy S7 pushed the new SE to that device, the S8 and later devices launched with it.
And it was pretty good: it was a clean UI and added a bunch of useful features to the OS. Just like OxygenOS on the OnePlus devices, it doesn't get in the way of what you're doing and actually adds value.
With the release of Android Pie for the S9, Samsung have done away with Samsung Experience and replaced it with One UI. It's a complete redesign of their software, and I actually quite like it. It's a bit different and takes some getting used to, but it's definitely good.

@AlexMedia Samsung Experience was shit. If people thought it was good then I'd really hate to see TouchWiz. And the best part of it is that there's no way to get rid of it no matter how hard you try; even with an alternative launcher it still uses SE icons. Even more fun is that it didn't when I bought it but did following an update in I think April 2018.

What didn't you like about Samsung Experience?
Forcing me to use weird square circle icons, even for apps that don't have them so the icon was shrunken or unrecognizable. Paginated app drawer with no alphabetic index. No support for the long-tap menu. Preventing Google Assistant from being activated if the screen was off. And so forth.
-
@pie_flavor I think most of those things have been addressed nowadays, although the icon issue is to be blamed on the app developer. Android design guidelines have a lot of information about how icons should be designed and which areas can get clipped by a launcher.
-
@AlexMedia And Samsung ignores them. That was my complaint.
