Federal Tax Payment System Ambiguity

  • Sometimes you gotta wonder where the accessibility laws and requirements for government apply and where they don't.  I myself wonder why this simple yes/no question has such off-the-wall response options...  why can't they just ask yes or no??

    EFTPS WTF??

  • Didn't you hear? "Yes" and "No" are considered archaic and should not be used in any new production systems. In fact, "Accept" and "Decline" are also on their way out, soon to be replaced with "Access Mode Confirmation" and "Access Mode Rejection".

  • Nah.  Better would be pages with links/buttons labeled:

    Site.Page.onClick_Exit

    Site.Page.onClick_ExitConfirm

    Site.Page.onClick_DontExit

    Browser.onClick_Close.IE

    Browser.onClick_Close.Firefox

    ....(and so on)....

Yes, but that wouldn't enable a sneaky HGTG reference.

  • I kinda really like Affirmative and Negatory myself.

  • Since in another thread a while back there were people arguing that dialogs with yes/no answers can be inconsistent across different contexts ("Do you want to discard changes?" / "Do you want to save changes?"), maybe the page should read:

Are you sure you want to exit EFTPS-OnLine?

    [ Yes, I am sure I want to exit EFTPS-OnLine ]   |   [ No, I am not sure I want to exit EFTPS-OnLine ]

    And for good measure:

[ Yes, I am sure that I have looked, and the FILE is still _NOT_FOUND ]

My personal preference is for "Absatively" and "I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there".
