Oh, really? No unread topics?
-
Chrome on OSX, but seen multiple times on multiple browsers.
-
I posted about this earlier (I'd find it, but ). Disappears if you refresh, but yeah that's some odd bug.
-
what? You mean you don't keep your /unread clean?
-
Repro steps?
-
@julianlam Not repro per se, but I know it happens on occasion when I use the back button rather than re-clicking Unread.

I've seen it too. I'd say "just use the forum", but it must be something in my workflow that triggers it, otherwise you'd probably have run into it...
Might be what @pie_flavor said, it might be caused by going back...

you just don't touch the navigation controls in the browser on SPAs like NodeBB. Or do we need a "this site users cookies OMG" warning for that too?

I see this relatively regularly and I don't use the navigation controls. I assumed it was just a WebSockets thing, the icon not being in sync or something.

You and pie should compare notes, magical mystery things happen to him constantly...

It's only marginally related to the navigation controls--it seems more related to clicking on an unread post at the exact time a new one's being added (some kind of race condition that breaks the count).

Are you kidding? The point of SPAs is that they capture stuff like the back button. And Discourse works great with that.

@sloosecannon Well, what the hell else is an SPA for?

I always use the navigation controls, and I never see this. My unread count is permanently stuck at ; it probably doesn't even try to count, because I haven't been within 100 threads of being caught up in years.
Also, SPAs that don't respect normal user navigation can DIAF, and their authors, too.

@hardwaregeek When I joined for real (as opposed to registering, which was like five months before that), I just clicked 'mark all as read'. And now I can easily keep on top of what little there is.
-
@pie_flavor I don't do that in part because there are some old topics I intend to catch up with someday Real Soon Now™, and in part because I know that I can't keep up; in a week or two I'll just be back to 99+.

OTOH, if I click back too quickly, e.g., I just click back twice to get back to Recent, it backs up one page, but discards the browser history as it had gone back two, leaving me without a way to actually get back to the page I want.
