How's 2018 so far?

Fucking cold. Highs in the single digits (yes, Fahrenheit) over the past several days, and it won't get above freezing until Sunday. Yesterday, the high was negative goddamn one. I can haz global warming now?
For realz. If I wanted to live somewhere where negative temperatures were routinely in the forecast, I would be living in Canada
-
@izzion Can confirm, it's cold asf

Agreed. And those who put salad dressing on it deserves the same.
Only yellow mustard please.

I live in Hong Kong. I live in somewhere without heater and the thermometer reads 23°C.

Those are both from 2017.
Also, I will stop trolling people about cold weather when they STFU about hot summers and wildfires and etc.

I think I started it out right. At about 12:30 AM on the 1st I published my first science fiction novel and so far two people have bought it on Amazon. Once the check clears I can go buy a 12-pack of Coca Cola.
Although, because of stupid, annoying time zones, Amazon subverted my intentions and listed it as published on Dec 31st of 2017...
-
Walked outside (in the cold, for Florida), and found my car (and a bunch of others in my neighborhood) had been egged last night. Almost more annoying was the fact that whoever did it did a poor job.
-
Mostly boring.

2 houses near mine were broken into the last weekend, while people were away celebrating new year

Yeah, we're in the same boat. It's cold enough that my kitchen sink isn't draining, something I'll have to look at when it's warmer. (The kitchen wall is shared with the deck and the piping runs down that wall and partially through the unheated garage.)

That sucks. Our house may be a shitbox in some ways, but at least the plumbers didn't fuck us like that. No plumbing runs through any outside wall, aside from outdoor faucets and the water main (which comes into the basement several feet below ground, so it should never freeze anyway).

Was going to ask how cleaning frozen egg off a car was, then remembered. Florida.
Fuck you. Serves you right. I bet you think you're suffering with those 50-degree temps, too. ;)

How did you enjoy it? I mean, on the IMAX screen?
Quite recently I saw Blade Runner 2049 in IMAX and it was a really bad decision. Too large!
Or maybe IMAX screens come in different sizes?

I liked it - I was about 2/3 the way up (row J). I have seen different sizes screens - this one was fairly large.
Edit: I did have to turn my head to see action on left/right sides of the screen. But the only time that was annoying was the close up head scene with two people on opposite sides of the screen.

Yeah, thatâs basically what I didnât like when watching Blade Runner. The edges of the screen were outside of my view. I didnât notice a lot of details that I had when watching it for the first time.
The screen here in KrakĂłw is 24m x 18m, so I guess itâs a pretty standard size (Wikipedia says a standard IMAX screen is 22m x 16m)?

There's proper IMAX that's super rare and the screens are measured in vertical stories. There's IMAX Digital, which is more conventionally sized but also much lamer

They do come in different sizes. The only True IMAX Screen is in AMC in Lincoln Square, NYC.
We went to see Star Wars in IMAX 3D in a regular IMAX Theater and it was fine. If you can't see the sides, you are sitting too close. I don't think there is any IMAX Theater where you can't get a seat far enough back to see the whole screen.

I think it was the last but 2 row, but could be that Poles are doing IMAX wrong.
Itâs not that I wasnât at all able to see everything, itâs just that I had to move my eyes around and in a sometimes-high-paced movie it makes a difference.

Yea, you guys must be... the screen is too big for the seats. Over here, as long as your in the middle of the theater and up, you can watch things comfortably. The first few rows are obviously going to have issues.

Or maybe IMAX screens come in different sizes?A few years ago IMAX started whoring-out their brand name and now will certify even tiny-ass screens as IMAX. It's become almost meaningless to see an "IMAX" movie instead of a normal one, when the normal one could actually be a better experience. (All this depends on what that specific theater has done recently remodel-wise, but. Point is "IMAX" on a movie ticket doesn't necessarily guarantee anything anymore.)

Let's see:
- Had a pipe freeze. Fortunately it didn't burst and I think the problem should be fixed now (added insulation).
- Dishwasher doesn't want to use any water (there is an outside chance that this is related to the frozen pipe, since the pipe was behind it, so maybe something froze up in there).
- The winshield wiper fluid reservoir in my van has a leak. I suspect the fluid in there froze and burst the plastic. I'd put some super bug formula stuff in there back in the spring, but we drive it so rarely it didn't get used up.
- I had a gallon jug (mostly full) of apple cider from Christmas. It's been fermenting and generating CO2. This morning it apparently generated too much and it appears to have sprung a leak on the bottom. There wasn't too much to clean up, so I think I found it pretty soon after the leak started, at least.
-
@boomzilla said in How's 2018 so far?:

Or the pressure when the pipe froze damaged a valve, or something like that.
