Firefox Quantum WTF Of The Day
-
It appears that FF Quantum sorts the history lists alphabetically:
I did not visit those pages in that order.
Seriously, WTF? Who on Earth uses a HISTORY LIST like this?!?
The only reason I use FF is that Chrome OOMs on my system within 10 minutes. Yes, even the 64-bit version OOMs, and I have 24G RAM. I never really liked Opera / Vivaldi. Edge and IE, yuck. They break on many sites I go to for various reasons, whereas FF renders said sites perfectly fine.

I don't use history that often, but when I do it's usually to find a specific page and I'll know what day I visited but not necessarily what time in the day. That alphabetical list might be better for me
-
?
Edit: looking again, it's probably set to "by Date". Just switch to "by Last Visited" and I expect all will be well.
-
@brisingraerowing I posted about that in the other thread already... (well, something similar, but not quite the same)
You do not want in the toolbar. You want
Because it's so fucking obvious.
-
@dcon Fun fact: if you display the bookmarks toolbar and add that icon to it, you can never get it to stick to the right edge so that you could click it if your mouse is hugging the right edge of the screen.
Mozilla's designers must have thought "fuck that, hit this small target instead!"

FF did that before Quantum, including the View sorting options.

Who?
I believe they call themselves "the Chrome team"

.... What are you doing? Running a VM in javascript?
Edit: Goddam I forgot what running an OS with the primary disk hosted over the Internet was like.
-
@tsaukpaetra I don't know what Chrome was doing, but it kept OOMing. Even if it was the only thing I opened. It has been a while since that incident, so I might as well try again. Might have been a transient bug.
My other main gripe with Chrome is that the tabs don't scroll when there are lots of them, they just get smaller and smaller. All other browsers that I've used scroll the tabs. Why did Google think that was a GOOD idea?
-
@tsaukpaetra Also, WTF? That's.... interesting.

Clearly they were under the belief that nobody would ever be able to open much more than ~10 tabs.

That's a CPU-intensive operation, not memory....

I proved them wrong the first time I used Chrome
-
@timebandit Chrome's so sure about its ability to open tabs, if you open 100 tabs on mobile, the tab number turns into a smiley face. Or a winky face if you're in incognito.

Oh, joy. I can't wait.
"Look mummy, someone 3D printed a hamburger menu icon that's fallen over and its top is coming off!"

@pie_flavor Indeed. Chrome on my phone has a :D right now. (The first time I saw it, I thought too many digits had broken the rendering, but no, it's supposed to do that.)

Heh, I remember discovering that...
-
So I complained in the status thread a couple days ago that every link in WTF I clicked (unread, forums in unread) opened to a blank page - and didn't do anything until I hit F5 or clicked in the URL and hit return...
GODDAMMIT FIREFOX - YOU HAD ONE JOB!!!
Yes, Edge works better.
-
@dcon I had the same problem earlier and it was due to some setting in about:config. Unfortunately I have no idea which one, I accumulated a lot of changes in there over the years that were causing all sorts of problems on many different sites, so I ended up resetting everything to default and making a few changes that I actually needed. It's been fine since.

I'll have to play with that later... (have to leave for the train in 2 minutes)
thx for the tip!

@dcon Problem is, it seems like an intermittent issue. I suspect it was some of the settings here: https://www.privacytools.io/#about_config - I know I had most of them customized. But at the same time I customized those years ago and I used this forum fine until it suddenly broke one day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
