Forum Software with extras

I've been discussing with a friend who would like to start a LARP group (live action roleplay...) based in a post apocalyptic scenario featuring tech.
Part of some LARP games is the notion of downtime - what the player character is doing when not at an event.
We would like to create a forum system that would allow communication between specific groups of people, as well as across the whole population.
We would like some form of currency control - so characters can transfer credits etc.
A possible idea is that every player will have a smartphone with them to use this system live during actual events also.
Part of the idea is also some form of hacking skill, where the people with hacking skills can do logic type games onsite but also during downtime. To do this we will need to be able to add these sort of games to the ''forum''.
Does anyone know if such a thing exists, or could be tacked on to some existing forum software or will I need to start from scratch?
If I need to start from scratch, there must be some building blocks for some of these things that could be used?
Hosting will be linux, PHP.
Also open to ideas for games that could emulate hacking...
Speak to @sockdevs to see if it's stuff they'd be interested in adding to StoryBB

You might get some idea of it from the Mafia category.
Is there anyone running storyBB that I can sign up for to see what it does?
we're pre-alpha currently, so the only running instance is our dogfood. I'll pop back by when we release an alpha build you can play with.
Though I will say, we forked SMF as a base, so talk to @arantor about what plugins already exist to do what you want in an SMF forum
So we forked from SMF 2.1 beta 3 - I couldn't recommend working off that unless you're already super familiar with it as a thing, simply because it's still lurching towards an RC and has been in beta for 6 years.
2.0.15 is out and is stable and is a viable base for general foruming. But then again so is phpBB, etc.
In terms of mods available for SMF specifically, there haven't been any points/currency mods that I've seen lately that are still in some semblance of being kept up to date meaning you'd need to roll that yourself. Potentially the same for any other forum software, though I know that XenForo has at least one points addon that could conceivably be repurposed.
In terms of the other stuff you're talking about, I think you'd need to look at implementing these yourself, not sure how complex or fancy you're looking to get though.
