Actual infinite scrolling.
If the user wants to scroll past the start or the end of the thread, why not let them?
This would actually be an interesting project - create a neural network that predicts what posts look like based on their index in a thread and then extrapolate.
-
@anonymous234 All from @boomzilla alts, of course.

The forum could even generate infinite replies on demand with Markov chains.
You mean it isn't doing this already?

Of course. You didn't think I was manually making all those posts did you?

Or simpler... it wraps around. Just don't hit home/end - it will never stop - oh wait, it just auto-scrolls!
-
Speaking of Markov chains...
Infiniscroll zoom: fractal post contents generated by Markov chain (using the poster's entire post history of course). Zooming in would tend to add more detail to posts; zooming out would tend to condense them into key points. Users would see your posts exactly as you wrote them only if they were reading at the same exact zoom level as you posted them at (assuming that they hadn't been invoted or outvoted yet); other users would see them either more condensed or more expanded, depending upon their personal preference. In addition to up/down votes and left/right votes, there would be in/out votes, whose score would affect the post's zoom level; clicking the outvote button would zoom the post slightly further out for all users, indicating that the user believed that the post contained too much detail for their preferred zoom level, and clicking the invote button would zoom the post slightly further in, indicating that it contained too little.

@anotherusername and, of course, everyone loves a good toaster:
-
@anotherusername I always found zooming user interfaces to be a really cool concept. It's a shame they don't work in practice.
Imagine every thread on this forum laid out in its entirety on a 2D surface surface (with the active ones closer to the center). Move to the one you want and zoom in. Zoom out to see the older ones if you want to necrobump something.
And instead of a button that shows a grid of emoji, you just put all the emoji in the tiny space the button would take.

Use facial recognition instead of emoji picker
-
@bb36e Would probably clash with some of Apple's Animoji patents.
-
@anonymous234 meh, it's not that great of a feature anyways. I heard you can unlock anyone's iphone thru face unlock if you make a blank expression

Oh sure, you might be able to unlock anyone else's phone if you make a blank expression... but did you know that you can unlock my phone using an ?!

@zecc How would facial recognition work for or ?
-
@luhmann did you try holding it closer to the camera though?

They filmed a documentary on it... The Emoji Movie, have you heard of it?
-
@anotherusername
It didn't fit on the screen when when using a selfie stick ...

I miss the race to get your post appearing after the "thread locked" message, in those threads that were automatically locked after 1h in Discourse. Also, laughing at the server crashing every time we did that.

Turn every post into a Git repo. Allow other users to file issues and submit pull requests.

@bb36e said in for the love of fudge can we please move the damn upload/attach button to the left?:
Adding this as a delectable theme.

I mean, it's OK if you like that sort of thing but I'd hardly call it delectable
-
@jaloopa But it's still pretty laugh as yep.

Is that another one of your weird memes?

@jaloopa Yes, it refers to @Tsaukpaetra's fantastic ability to use a mobile keyboard. https://what.thedailywtf.com/post/1278623

@hungrier At least you'll know that your phone battery's charge is going to a good cause.

Some topics are randomly turned into roller-coaster rides, with each post making a section of track whose height is based on the number of likes for that post and you get an achievement if you actually make it to the end of a topic greater than 50 posts without getting stuck somewhere.

Features:
Better Emoji Picker
It'd be nice if there was a better picker. Right now we just have this big fucking list that fires off a billion (estimated) requests. Searching for the right emoji is shit-tastic.Leave the quick-search one we have now, but put a little popout icon to open a lightbox. Then have a textbox there to type more complex search terms into.
Allow browsing by category, if our piece of shit emoji implementation allows it.
Allow users to pin favorite emojis (or at least show recently used ones on top).
Basically, copy Twitter
{fucking hell pasting images STILL doesn't work on FF?!?}
-
@lorne-kates I copied and pasted this in FF57 (64 bit, Linux)

Yes, I did, but I know it's not FF22 any more and it's also not 57.

By happy circumstance, it was right there.
