Multiple downvotes?
-
I've noticed that @boomzilla sometimes gives two downvotes to a single post. How is that possible? If it's by design, why is that possible?

All down votes are attributed to @boomzilla by forum policy (and @ben_lubar's programming). Because we're all @boomzilla's alts, after all.

@benjamin-hall I see. Still, I don't like @boomzilla downvoting multiple times, even if it's alts.

Well, since you're one of his alts (as am I), he's downvoting himself
I find the policy silly, but I don't run things around here. For which I'm very, very, eternally grateful.

Something something "@ben_lubar built this really nifty popup to show all upvotes/downvotes" "non-admins shouldn't be able to see which users downvoted a post though" "needs to be a real user for the avatar-generator code to work" "we're all boomzilla's alts, so just set the UID to 14 (bz's UID)".
-
It is a feature so we can see all of our likes but still keep downvotes hidden. Boomzilla didn't actually downvote multiple times. Count the boomzillas to count your downvotes. One may be boomzilla but you we can't know.

If there's an upvote from boomzilla, then you can know that there's not also a downvote from him.

I usually just look at the number next to "Downvotes", but sure, you can do it the long way.

The code counts them, too. It's one reason why there have to be actual things there (or it would say 0 downvotes).

@ben_lubar how much more effort would it take to make scripts down the call stack not crash when they encounter UID -1 or other nullish value?
-
@gąska But that would violate the tradition of having the TDWTF forum software, itself, being a WTF.
-
@hardwaregeek how about this - we change
14
to-1
and don't touch anything else, and see what happens?
-
@ben_lubar also. That code violates "no magic numbers" rule.
Just saying.

Pretty much every number in that file outside of the findUpstreams function is an ID from this forum's database. And that function violates the "no magic numbers" rule too!

@ben_lubar does all JS look like that?

When I can't sleep, I count boomzillas.

The first rule of boomzilla (alts) is that any effort is too much effort

Self-reference! Woo!

@boomzilla
I don't believe it ... downvoting sounds like to much work

If there's an upvote from boomzilla, then you can know that there's not also a downvote from him.
So our downvotes are basically like the Enigma code.

Or the PAR algorithm.

Better a hamster than a hamsterviel.
