looking for a dual-sport motorbike
-
I know some of you lot are bikers. If you had a bit of spare cash (but not Harley-level blocks of cheddar), which dual-sport would you get? I've heard good things (and not so good) about the Kawi KLR650 and the BMW R9T Scrambler, but other ideas are welcome.

Make sure you wear your helmet, and don't drive crazy.
.
Oh, not those kind of ideas? Sorry, I don't sport bike...

I can recommend a bike that's good for tennis and water polo.

Damn right ... it really was kind of muddy though

dual-sport
I don't have any experience with off road styles of bikes since my 125cc days.
If I was looking, I'd see what KTM's current range is like, and also look into the Triumph Tiger

@lolwhat why are you wanting to go dual sport?

Good question. I'd like to be able to commute at expressway speeds in all weather (aside from icy conditions - I'm not that batshit). I'd also like to be able to go off-road (to a limited extent) if it strikes my fancy.

@lolwhat have you ridden motorcycles and dirt bikes quite a bit?
My experience with dual sports is pretty aged. My roommate 10-15 years ago had one. A 450cc 4 stroke Yamaha one. I remember thinking that dual sports were pretty big compromises. It was heavy and the tires were pretty marginal when off-road. DOT legal tires just don't have the aggressive patterns that full dirt bike knobbies do. The riding position was pretty suboptimal for street riding also.
But it was a wheelie monster. That 450cc thumper would pull the front wheel like it was its job.
Take all this with a grain of salt. My experiences are over a decade old at this point. It was also the first 4 stroke dirt bike I ever rode.

My experience isn't as expansive as some. But, my most recent experience (within the past couple of years) has been with a Kawi KLR 650 on-road. I was commuting with that for a while. Unfortunately, it lost oil pressure to the top end one day, with results as you might expect... :/ Needless to say, I won't let that happen again. Off-road wise, my experience is, um, non-existent, but I do know I'd like to try it at some point; I just don't want to have to buy another, off-road-only bike, then deal with trailering it to wherever.
