A few years back my FIL had a condition that (among other things) made it hard for him to keep warm, so I got him one of these:
https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/cordless/201b-21
(In case it doesn't onebox, it's a heated jacket that takes your standard M12 battery from your screwdriver).
So there exist at least one use case where this technology makes sense.

Milwaukee Tool? Hey! @ben_lubar is not a tool!
As for that shirt, it's does actually look like a complicator's shirt, so it's funny. Plus, in the ad there's this scene where a guy is supposed to be climbing but you can see he's just lying on the snow and pulling himself forward.
Hilarious! It's gonna be interesting to know how it fares for them! :D
ETA oh my fucking dog, they got funded. Probably because of this line at the end: "get your polar seal, winter is coming". Real classy.

Ah that's why it looked so wrong to me. Also the that guy and the one riding the bike don't wear gloves. Having your back heated up helps almost nothing against freezing your fingers off.
Also: rant about energy density of batteries versus wearing proper insulation.
-
They also show a max heating level of 50C which is above the pain threshold for humans.

They should buy the gloves too!

POLAR SEAL is compatible with standard USB power banks. This gives you the freedom to choose the power bank that suits your needs and taste, or use USB power banks you already might own.
Come on now a power bank of 10Ah doesn't have enough energy to make a cup of tea. At ideal conditions a 10Ah power bank could raise the temperature of 0.25l by approx 35C. Obviously if the heating is short-lived it's your dingy power bank at fault. Not their stupid idea.
TLDR: Buy a thermos instead.

@weng this calls for a kickstarter solution: Power bank heater.

Aren't heat pumps more efficient than simple heating elements nowadays? 3-4 watts of heating per watt of energy consumed, I think I heard.
Still doesn't get you to two cups though.

More great kickstarter ideas: fitting a shirt with heat pumps!

I have some friends who have those - they LOVE them.

I'm in Sweden. I wouldn't use this product either, being too warm is more of a problem than being too cold (the latter being solvable by choice of clothing, the former not so much).
Also, I would probably die in Arizona during the summer.
-
I'm from Canada and I would love a version of this for snow boots.

Patent pending:
Dual-layer shirt with micro-tubules running throughout that carry water (in small amounts) and air, with just enough separation to have a viable swamp effect without being too bulky.

Outgrowth of racecar tech. We have coolers bolted to the floor of the car and powered by... The car.
This has either a water filled bag for you to carry around, or a cooler parked on the floor and is powered by lithium ion batteries.
The racecar version is enough to keep you nice and chilly in a 110 degree cockpit with a floor hot enough to melt your fucking shoes wearing what amounts to a full body quilt with a helmet on and no airflow.

Not sure that your calculation is correct. 10 Ah @ 5 V amount to 50 Wh which are 180 kJ. If we're going with the rough equivalent of 1 ml of water having a mass of 1 g then we need 4.1 Joule per gram to heat the water by 1 Kelvin. If we assume water at room temperature (~ 20 °C) then the temperature differential needed is 80 K. If we assume ideal transformation of stored energy into warmth then 180 kJ will bring ~ 548 ml of water from 20 °C to the boiling point.

I totally want one...but seems expensive for my casual use.

No, that will not work. You have to wrap it in another polar shirt.

Though it's not quite a shirt, that does exist already: http://www.activemsers.org/tipstricks/choosingacoolingvest.html
Unfortunately, even quite simple vests with pockets for cooling gel packs are pretty expensive (you pay for the gel packs, I suppose) and markedly more so when you’re in Europe compared to the USA, it turned out when I made some enquiries concerning these a few years ago.

That could probably be arranged..... though there is a door charge to get in..... and i'd need a security deposit on the cleaning fee...... from you and the other vixen.....

@gleemonk Energy is a problem. But there's a solution:

Seconded. But yeah, at $300 per shirt (plus cooling pack, which is another 300 to 600), it's a bit pricey for casual/personal use. (On the other hand, if I ever again get stuck in an office with too many computers and people and without AC ...)
