Wah, Microsoft Windows 10 does it again...
-
Ok, so I'll throw out this bone because I know people around here like to stir the shit pot over Microsoft being intrusive.
Do you like voice recognition? Do you like apps using your location to provide relevant content?
Well, fuck you, Microsoft gets to keep that data for research. You sign up for the service and the data is theirs. No split option for you.
-
@xaade - And why not? Seriously. AI needs data [I feel like I am channeling Short Circuit]

No.
And n... maaayb.. actually no.
-
@xaade These big companies are getting more and more smarmy. Someone needs to have a huge slap, like MS had in the 90-ies, to bring them in line.

boohoohoo. Want to use the stuff? Have to pay. Just the payment is in data not dollars. Not like in the past where you couldn't turn it off.

It's funny how much they push "but it's for your good, and if bad things happen you'll have less help" if you deselect options.

My PC never moves (even though IP based location sometimes seems to think I'm 30 miles away), and I don't have a microphone. What are they going to do with my data?

IP based location
Has placed me in Eastbourne before.
I was in Manchester.
That's 270 miles away.
-
@jaloopa Pretty much same, although for me it always thinks I'm 50km away as I guess my ISP reports all local adresses as originating from the next town. Although it makes sense, there's a bunch of data centers and a major exchange there.

it currently places me in Melbourne. That's about as close to antipodal to my actual location as it's possible to get.

@accalia VPN?

@accalia VPN?
nope. not unless the work office started using one and didn't tell me.
-
@accalia my work PC and the wifi both occasionally place me at alternative offices. It's a bit weird to finish the 20 minute drive to work and have Google Now welcome me to Reading, show me some sights and inform me it's a 4 hour drive home
