To Nougat or not to Nougat?
-
My grandma's LG K10 is acting, so she gave it to me so I can fix it up. Main problems are battery drain (culprit identified: AccuWeather) and various quirks that most likely are PEBKAC.
It's also my only opportunity this year to do system update. So I installed two last night, but there's a third one - upgrade Android from 6.1 to 7.0. It might help with lots of things, it might make battery life shorter, but most importantly, there's a risk of changing a few pixels on home screen, which my grandma will kill me for.
Does anyone have experience with upgrading LGs from Android 6 to 7? Does it look much different? Do phone/contacts icons change?
-
@gąska From what I remember, there's not a whole lot of UI changes from 6 to 7. Nothing major, at least. Looks the same. Also, as the phone and contacts icons are built into their respective apps, they could change when those apps get updated anyway (although they rarely do).

@gąska I recently bought Sony Xperia X Compact, which came with Nougat.
15% constant "Idle time" batter drain. Hundreds of people in forums complaining Nougat has ruined their battery perf. I went from never having to think about battery with Z3 Compact to becoming one of those phone hobos, who has to rush for the charger any time they visit somewhere.
Would not recommend upgrading.

NodeBB does that for me. I wanted to rollback to CS, but I can't :(

I also got worse battery drain with Nougat than with Marshmellow. It seems something is making

I also got worse battery drain with Nougat, it looks like something in the OS is causing CPU spikes. Also no Xposed, and no mayor new features. Really dissapointed. Too bad you get a persistent notification you can't get rid of if you don't upgrade.

The only game I have changes its icon to a new character every damn update.

Well my battery life increased going from M to N. It's probably a hardware thing...

That's why they went from 3.1 to 95 to 2000 to XP then 7,right?

Yes, because 'XP' is higher than 2000 and 7 is higher than 'Vista'.

@tsaukpaetra I was talking specifically about the "standard feature" apps, like phone and contacts. Although I've not come across any app that changes icon often yet.
Also, battery life seems to be an YMMV thing. I noticed no difference in how long it lasts on my phone.

This problem is probably specific to your hardware/manufacturer, and therefore completely irrelevant. Personally, I've had no battery problems with Nougat at all.

Your hardware/manufacturer are probably making up for Nougat's faults.

Yeah… right. Motorola ships stock Android with very few changes, so no.

Or, more likely, your hardware/manufacturer done fucked it up

That seems vastly more likely. what the hell would a hardware manufacturer do to make up for Nougat's faults? Give the battery a firmware update to increase its capacity?

Actually, it is possible to increase battery capacity with firmware upgrade. Just not recommended.
