Which is better? Australia or Maths? There's only one way to find out....

But Mr Turnbull said Australian law would prevail over the laws of mathematics.
He told journalists: "The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only law that applies in Australia is the law of Australia."

@pjh that quote reads like an onion article

@pjh He ought to try repealing the Law of Gravity and then proving his success by stepping off the top floor of a high building.

On behalf of Australia, I'm sorry. We very nearly kicked them out at the last election, but they just made it across the line.
The odd thing is, while I may not agree with Mally politically, he did at least strike me as someone who had a vague knowledge of how a computer worked and being somewhat intelligent unlike his predecessor who claimed nobody was the suppository of all wisdom and that 25mbit\second internet speeds would be enough for anybody and should have been able to say "hey guys, what you're asking for is mathematically impossible!"
Unless, of course, Mally has in fact found and used the suppository of all wisdom. That might explain a few things, actually.

Politicians bend mathematical law all the time. How do you think the ones in the US are able to balance a budget that spends $900 billion more than they receive?

@pjh The antiencryption meme is pretty universal in Western politics these days.
I expect formal bans out of most nations within the decade.

All government members of all countries must be forced to watch this 18 minute video (or a translated version if they don't understand English):
Encryption: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) – 18:01
— LastWeekTonight

Mr Turnbull said he was not seeking a "back door" and wanted communications handed over in "the usual way that applies in the offline world”.
Somebody needs to hand him a piece of paper with a message encrypted using a onetime pad.

Why? No one's offended, we're just amused.
If anything, it's us who should be thanking you!

No one should be forced to watch John Oliver. That is cruel and unusual punishment.

The mind boggles.

So hereby I summon the annoying Australian pigeon to defend their crazy: @flabdablet

What if one watches because they want to?
Though in this case, I think the 'punishment' would fit the crimes against intelligence.

You're . You use suppositories in your ass.

So apparently our Attorney General George "I Don't Know What Metadata Is But What The Hell I'll Write A Law About Metadata Retention Anyway" Brandis has said that law enforcement agencies could do this without backdoors, again proving that he likely has no idea how computers work and may not even know what a computer is.
Incidentally, that interview was on a network that is usually friendly to their party so the fact he flubbed it as badly as he did is somewhat surprising. I hadn't listened to the full interview for a while and god that made my brain hurt more than I remembered it ever doing.

the Five Eyes security conference
That would be Moshe Dayan and two other people.

He used to be funny in England, usually on panel shows. Every video I see of his now is only a small step above 'X people be like ...'

I hope they write some ambiguously worded ban on all cryptographic software that ends up making both Windows and Linux illegal to possess.

Why just those two? FreeBSD doesn't ever get any fun time...

Because other than a certain fruity vendor that builds on *BSD, noone actually uses *BSD

Nintendo seems to like it. Sony too.

@tsaukpaetra but their end users aren't using the natural BSD experience...

And thank $deity that isn't so!
Doesn't negate the original statement though...

First you plug one end of the Ethernet cord into the port on the back of your modem. Next, take the other end of the cord and plug it into WAIT, STOP! THAT'S NOT WHERE IT GOES!

That's the NBN you're thinking of, I think.

How else are you supposed to consume the internet?
