New and 'improved' Github Desktop

This was mentioned in another thread but the search is so god-awful I couldn't find it.
Thought I'd give this a go today. Installer was 81 MB, which seems excessive for a simple frontend GUI, even if it does include all the Git stuff.
Ran the installer, which tells me it's installing (with no choice of location, options, etc.). It then created a desktop shortcut (ditto), and pushed my CPU usage up to 100% spawning and killing hundreds of processes.
After five minutes I gave up and restarted the computer (as the processes were being killed too quickly to end manually). Tried again with the same result.
I suppose it's my fault for using an obscure operating system. You can't expect them to check everything.

"The new native"
It's built with Electron. That's a friggin' webview.

And it's built on NodeJS.
So much for native...

@coldandtired SourceTree is free. Why use anything else?
-
@Kian Source Tree keeps bugging out on me. One time it refused to launch and I had to uninstall and reinstall, and it lost all my repo organization when I did so. For many of us it keeps forgetting how to open BitBucket URIs; you have to uncheck the little "use ths version of sourcetree to open BitBucket URIs" checkbox, close the program, open it again, and recheck it.
GitHub Desktop is also free. Git Kraken is also free, but not for enterprise.
-
@Kian
Because Sourcetree is awful. It's a sluggish, buggy piece of crap.

Because it's garbage? That's my reason at least. Utter garbage.

@AlexMedia Well, toby faire, it is a Git client. There's only so much they can do...

Has anyone tried GitKraken? Found it about an year ago I think, but never got to actually use git.
AFAIK it's also atom-based.

I tried.
It demanded that I make an account on their website before it would run.
I was not in the mood to reverse engineer it, so just deleted it.

I agree that sourcetree seems kind of buggy. I used the old github client a while ago, but I found the interface really confusing, so I just use sourcetree for staging hunks and viewing diffs, and the command line for everything else.

Link. (Search terms: "github purple")Glad to see it wasn't just me, on the oh-so-rare Windows 10 that had that problem. Did you also try the other installer? The one in the plaintext link below the big purple
