TDWTMafia Season 16 - Coptastrophe Mafia

    Set in the same world as my prior mafia games, it has become clear that the mafia is growing stronger and infiltrating places, to combat this regular citizens have been flocking to recently opened schools of detectiveing and police training. As such many citizens are trained investigators (Alignment Cop) or reserve police officers (Role Cop)

    Then some shit goes down.....


    The mechanics:

    • everyone will have an investigative power role, to wit either
      • Role Cop
      • Alignment Cop
    • Cop modifers will be in play including:
      • Sane Cop
      • Insane Cop
      • Naive Cop
      • Paranoid Cop
      • Inspector Clouseau
    • Some players MAY have an alternate power role, such as doctor, if this is the case they may choose one, and only one, of their power roles to activate each night.
    • Players will NOT be informed of their cop modifier
    • Investigation results WILL include the cop modifier, as modified by the investigator's cop modifier
    • The flip will include the correct cop modifier
    • The game will be open, and the exact count of which modifiers and which cop variations are in use will be revealed

    I expect this game to be role madness like @weng's epic bastard of a game way back when, but this game will not be a bastard game.... and this time i REALLY promise! last time was only a technicality because i forgot to hand out a power role at the beginning and had to correct before the end of night one!

    What does this mean? When you investigate someone you'll be told the cop variant? Are there defined rules on what, say, a naive cop would see for a paranoid cop?

    Also, what's Inspector Clouseau? From what I remember of the Pink Panther, he'd basically be a naive cop?

    A full map of the conversion will be posted but for a role cop a naive cop would always see other cops as "Sane" a paranoid cop would see all cops as "Insane", and so on.

    as for Inspector Clouseau...... i have something very special planned for him. don't worry about that. :-)

    The Pink Panther was the diamond that the whole franchise was built around, whereas Cato was the Chinese(?) martial artist Clouseau hired to help keep his own combat skills fresh. So, maybe not a ninja, but certainly not the gemstone either ;)

  • Hooray, maybe I'll finally get to use a power role this time! Maybe even a beneficial one!

    Will we know which roles correspond to which alignments? (I'm guessing not)

    You will know which power roles are in play, if not exactly which modifiers are on which, and i am including alignment as a role modifier (the mafia will be cops too)

    • There are 2 Naive Cops
    • There are 1 Paranoid Cops
    • Additionally there is One Innocent Cop and one Guilty Cop
    • [insert mapping of the modifiers for sane/insane/naive/paranoid rolecops]

    (Innocent Cop investigates as Town to Alingment Cop, Guilty Cop investigates ad Mafia to Alignment Cop. These modifiers will not be revealed in Role investigation, but will be revealed in the flip (unless Yami convinces me this is a bad idea, the setup post will tell for sure which i chose))

    I promise you that I will not lie to you (exept where i am required to by the rules publically published, and even then only in exactly the way i am required to.)

    think of it as a logic puzzle. you have incomplete imformation and you got to figure out who it was that dun killed the owner in the mansion (and it's not exactly like it's different than the mafia lying to you about their power roles and results, is it? )

    :'(

    I mean if you want to sit this one out that's your call, and no blame attaches...... just :'(

    I'd understand untrustworthy cops being disruptive in a closed game where no-one's expecting them, but if you know to mistrust cop results and even know how many cops of which type exist, it becomes interesting instead.

    the fact that this is an open game and you're getting so much information up front is the ONLY reason i even considered including unreliable cops.

    Yeah, that's probably it - secret hitler collected 10 players easily and at least one more were denied due to the 10 player limit.
    In comparison, the previous two mafia games had 8 and 9 players barely scrounged up.

    A shame - I like playing mafia here - it has interesting setups, encourages light roleplaying, and has a brisk pace.

    I'd guess the biggest factor in the decline is the decline itself - the less people play, the less interesting and eventful the game can become, thus the less people decide to play it again.

    @CreatedToDislikeThis It also doesn't help that some people seemed destined to exit the game early, no matter their faction or plays. I know @Yamikuronue is feeling a little disillusioned, hence why she's sitting this one out.

    I can think of three, maybe four, people that seem to have that curse, and you've named one of them.

    @RaceProUK Disclaimer: I went back over a bunch of games to check on this instead of just relying on memory

    @Maciejasjmj and I often get attacked early in the game, and while that used to be us always at each others' throats, we've been more cautious about going right at each other in the more recent games with both of us, even going so far as recruiting each other when given the ability to do so.

    @CreatedToDislikeThis has gone out early in several of the past few games as well, getting killed in some way before D2. If he makes it to D2, he tends to stay in until at least D3.
