I'm going to play the devil's avocado here and say that, while giving a password example is a tremendously terrible idea, giving an example that fails validation — and I sure hope that fails validation — is a good idea.

I don't think I've ever seen a password field with placeholder text before. I mean, sure why not, but it feels weird.

@Zecc At least they didn't use "id est." That would be one restrictive password policy.

I've seen ones where the placeholder is the label. which probably looks great to the web designer, but is useless when you tap into the field on a phone, the placeholder disappears and you forget what field it was supposed to be and have to tap somewhere else for the placeholder to come back

I blame Windows Vista for introducing that pattern.
