I don't know what the fuck a "Best Boy",
First assistant to the Gaffer (head electrician) or Key Grip (head of lighting and rigging). Basically, the foreman of whichever department he/she works in, under the direction of the department head. No, I don't know why they have weird job titles, either.

The requirement of pressing "play" and "record" simultaneously to record isn't particularly discoverable, unless you have someone to tell you.
As far as I recall, pushing "record" hard enough would at least noticeably nudge the "play" button. A clever kid would figure that out.

But there were tabs at the upper corners that if removed would not allow recording to happen.
Yeah, I remember stuffing pieces of paper into the hole left by the removed tab so that I could record anyway. Blank tapes costed money, you know. I think scotch tape also works.

The little mechanical finger that detected whether the tab was present didn't apply much force, so almost anything would work to cover the hole.

The hipsters of the 2030s will bring back VHS the same way today's brought back vinyl and mustaches.
I thought Betamax already won the hipster format war? Or maybe Laserdisc...
Next up, 8 track tapes.

TIL that my parents were hipsters in the 1980s.
We were talking about hipsters using obsolete tech these days. CED wasn't completely obsolete in the 80s yet.
Your reasoning is flawed, sir!
Look at the Unreliable Source's description of CED a little harder. It was obsolete in the 80s because it had been delayed for ... reasons ... and had to compete with early versions of Laserdisc.

Only if you had actually removed those tabs.

And Martha Raye was an actress known, along with more substantial (I'd say serious, but she played mostly comedy due to her mouth, which was large in relation to the rest of her face) work, for TV ads for Polident denture cleaner and Super Poligrip denture adhesive.

I once encoded The Matrix onto two Video CD disks once. Terrible quality, but it was darn cool at the time!

The hipsters of the 2030s will bring back VHS the same way today's brought back vinyl and mustaches. They will insist they are higher quality and when you point out the "tracking" issues they'll just say your don't appreciate the greatness of it all and shoo you away.
Where are the audio cassette hipsters? And the 8-track ones?
(I do know some bands that offer cassette tapes on bandcamp though)

Well, damn.
What the fuck is up with this article completely and utterly ignoring those things called "CDs"?

But soulless too high audio quality!
Although, that makes me wonder what type of cassette tape gets used nowadays.
Most old (80s/90s) audio cassettes that I've seen were Type II (chromium dioxide). Which is not theshittiestmost emotionally warming type.
