Why do the various Firefoxes-but-not-really suck?
-
Pale Moon would shit the bed fairly often when I had it installed, and Waterfox is evidently single-fucking-threaded. Does one exist that doesn't do that crap on Windows? Will I have to pull a Lorne and switch to FF22?
-
You're complaining that something based on Firefox is a bit shit?
-
@lolwhat What's so bad about normal Firefox?
Would e.g. FF ESR or Seamonkey be an option?
-

Ummm....
In current versions of desktop Firefox, the entire browser runs in a single operating system process. In particular, the JavaScript that runs the browser UI (also known as "chrome code") runs in the same process as the code in web pages (also known as "content" or "web content").
— Firefox's page on Multiprocess Firefox, last updated less than a month ago.
As for multi-threaded, there's literally no info available about Firefox being multi-threaded.

Fucked up UI, intrusive ads, plans to intentionally break plug-ins for no reason other than to reduce what plug-ins can do, hijacked homescreen, sold out to Yahoo, security updates mixed in with UI updates, run by sociopaths.
And they changed the icon.
FF22 4evar.

Indeed, but Lorne pretty much has it. At one point, FF didn't do that shit. Now, I'm not really in the mood to go back fifty versions, but who knows...

The plugin breaking is the only one of those things that's both bad and actually happened.

E_NO_REPRO
I have been using Palemoon for nearly two years and I haven't encountered any problems (othen that the ones you might encounter with regular Firefox). I hate to use the old 'works for me' but I find that to be the case.
Palemoon retains features that have been removed from Firefox, especially the better, more customizable UI.
Firefox ESR is a joke because Mozilla's idea of 'extended support' is insanely short.

Is that because their idea of "ESR" is "we got the one guy who's not on memory-altering medication to remember this version as long as he can until his ADD kicks in"?

There's a reason I use Chrome, although they still sometimes do the "security updates mixed in with UI updates" thing.
Actually, I've been hearing good things about the Chromium/Blink-based browser named Vivaldi, I've just never tried it yet.

Sometimes? On Chrome, you're not allowed to stay on an older version, so when there's an UI update, you get an UI update.
I recommend using Opera instead, it's basically a clone of Chrome but not controlled by an evil megacorporation.

Hey, good for you man. All I know is that Pale Moon would GPF on my laptop several times a week.

I'm trying that out now. The only failing I've found so far is that Alt+D doesn't take me to the URL field like it does on literally every other Web browser that runs on Windows.

Good news! You can customize the shortcuts.
Bad news! It does have two other problems:
- Lack of suggestions for Google search
- Shortcuts trigger browser actions even when captured by the page. For example, on Google Docs you can't use ctrl+b to bold text because it opens the bookmarks page (unless you remove it as a shortcut entirely)

I'm pretty sure that in the case 'ESR' stands for 'enforcing Eric S. Raymond's bazaar development model', which is the exact opposite of Extended Support.

I prefer Bazaar Development and Security Model.
-
@lolwhat And here I thought ESR disliked Bondage and Discipline Languages... TIL.

Vivaldi
How about the fact that when it's maximized, clicking at the top-right doesn't click on the close button?
That's a desktop UI 101 fail.

That's a desktop UI 101 fail.Writing your own window frames/decorations shouldn't be allowed, IMHO.
At least Vivaldi has "Use Native Window" - which makes it use the system-provided ones.

ESR wants to build middle-eastern markets?
Filed under: That's a bizarre thing for him to want to do.
