Firefox Shield Studies
-
This popped up at the top of Firefox this morning:
There's also a "Learn More" link that goes here:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Shield/Shield_Studies
A link there goes to the list of Shield Studies:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Shield/Shield_Studies/Queue
..which, uh...hasn't been updated since August.
I'm not sure what to think about all this...though I won't be installing it.
-
@boomzilla How will the effect me seeing Grumpy Cat?
-
@Lorne-Kates Unclear:
Do Shield Studies need to be signed?
Yes! Shield Studies need to be signed to run in FF 42+, just like all other add-ons.

It doesn't work on FF22, so you're good.
-
It's just a script that installs chrome for you
-
There's also a "Learn More" link that goes here:
Shield Studies is a function of the Shield project that prompts a random population of users to help us try out new products, features, and ideas.
So the interaction was basically
"Hello sir, would you like to take a survey to help us?"
"A survey? Depends, what is it?"
"It's an activity in which I ask you a series of questions in order to gather information about what you do or think about something"

Hello
Hello sir, would you like to take a survey to help us?
*set phone to speaker*
*place phone on desk*
*say nothing else, see how long they take to hang up*
-
@loopback0 I used to hand over calls from telemarketers, etc, to my kids when they were toddlers or preschoolers.
-
@boomzilla
You, sir, are the reason we have ${UNDESIRABLE_POLITICAL_OUTCOME}! How can people choose what political position to take when the polls are being answered by toddlers?

Have you been to the Garage? That's a point of personal pride!
-
@boomzilla If I ever go to the garage it will be to install a thermonuclear device.

The garage will harmlessly incinerate any such device. Even if it detonates. Such is the power of the garage.

Your emoji are wrong. The voice from the phone is supposed to be the telesurveyor.
Unless...
Ah ha!

*say nothing else, see how long they take to hang up*I once got two telemarketers call me at the same time at work. i conferenced their lines together and muted myself.
that was a fun conversation to listen to.... Apparently both of them had that sort of rule where they're not allowed to hang up on you, so as neither realized i was on the line both had to wait for the other one to hang up.

To be fair, the winning candidate this time around is also a toddler.

@boomzilla I tried to install this:
After I clicked the button, it said:
We put an icon in your toolbar so you can always find Test Pilot.I am afraid not.

I actually like the Test Pilot: there is a vertical side bar for tabs there.
-
@kt_ Good for you then :)
I never got the icon to show up.
