The hedgehog does an "Internet of Everything" Open University course because it's free
-
And we're already off to a great start:
Something tells me this course might teach me where we (the people) fit in with the evolving internet, but I can't quite put my paw on it...
-
@accalia, did you write this course?
-
TIL the word 'experiential' exists.
-
There's no figure.
-
@RaceProUK movie rental stores? Is the course 6 years old by any chance?

I can't find a date, but it may well be.

The further I read through this course, the more it sounds like an advert for Cisco.
But then it was Cisco who wrote it.

The first law of free... if you're not paying, you're the product.Buy our Cisco gear and solve your Internet of Everything Problems!

Wikipedia redirects Internet of Everything to Internet of Things, so I'm guessing those refer to the same thing? In that case, I would propose the name "Internet of Everythings" as a compromise.

Correct.
-
Completed section 1 (of 5), which ended in a quiz where the pass mark isn't exactly difficult:
I should have got 100%, but I was a dumb on question 3.
Edit: This is where I was a dumb:
-
@cvi
Internet of Everything is basically Cisco's marketing term for the IoT. At least, until some marketing droid comes up with the next new name for it.
-

Huh. So, which one is more hip? Asking for a
grant proposalfriend.
-
@RaceProUK
You are dealing with a Cisco test, though. If they required more than a 50% to pass, they wouldn'tmake as much money from selling certificationshave nearly as many highly qualified Cisco Network Professionals.
-
@cvi If I had to guess, 'Internet of Everything', because 'Everything' is a bigger and more exciting word than 'Things'.

Doesn't explain how you apparently got 3.02 wrong (29.98/33? How does that even work?)

Yeah...

Started section 2.
i.e. a computer.

Isn't that what CANBUS is for?

@RaceProUK Of course there isn't. That's the lesson. You either get why there is no
spoonfigure, or you don't.

And no, that 'u' isn't an Accalia'ing.
CANNIBUS: a new, more effective means of moving THC around, replacing the older methods entirely. Initial estimates indicate transfer rates of up to 100K mg/s for the first generation design, with higher speeds to be implemented later. Come support us on Kickstarter!

Not to be confused with this guy:
-
@RaceProUK It is, and I don't see how standardizing network protocols reduces cables. There still has to be a physical connection between A and B (unless you used a wireless bridge of some sort).
And 23 kg of cables, seriously? I have 3 large boxes full of scrap cables in my garage and I don't think they add up to more than 10 kg.
-
@anonymous234
Also, a bonus - let's interconnect the (Internet-connected) entertainment system with the safety features system!
-
Erm... C# isn't an evolution of C or C++.
-
@RaceProUK if C# evolved from C, why do we sill have C?
Checkmate atheists

How many words can you find?

...and now the website done got brokeded

More than enough XD. Although, if you want words that can actually be found in a dictionary...
I see a few words I wish were real words ("Pniqetatic", anyone? Or "Aisensorst"? "Sistreem"? I could go on XD )
-
@RaceProUK said in The hedgehog does an "Internet of Everything" Open University course because it's free:
Isn't that what CANBUS is for?
Yes. But most car manufacturers go about canbus rather stupidly, with controller boxes in centralized ish locations driving oldskool 12v signalling and power circuits to the physical location of whatever accessory.
This saves no weight.
A proper implementation would have the chip that controls the tail lights sitting in the tail light assembly, talking Canbus to the light switch and brake pedal switch, each of which have their own microcontroller.
Power distribution would then be achieved by whacking the battery in the trunk (where it often is today anyway) and running an aluminum bus line down the spine of the car. This also means that fuses for things are near them, rather than shoved up under the dash or under the hood.
As it stands today, all of them are dumb 12v switches or loads controlled by a central computer that talks Canbus to other central computers 6 inches away.
-
Section 3:
Eh, good enough. Had a couple of attempts at a couple of questions, hence being docked a few marks.

My external API is fairly limited.
They're not really commands, but rather.... suggestions.
-
@Akko Does CPAP count? It's more of an acronym, really, though my own is technically a VPAP (variable pressure) instead...
-
@RaceProUK Hey, that was mostly true 10 years ago. Don't pick on them just because they're a little behind on their material.
-

Yeah. I hear Blockbuster Video's website used Java.
-
Section 4 done:
Yep.

It's still continuous pressure though, right?
