  • The all I see is the source thing would be the first thing to fix.

Clearly your page is not throwing the correct MIME headers. Some
browsers might say "fudge it!" and display anyway, but not on the w3c
    compliant side of the fence.

That explains the error in detail. I'd need to know more about what was
going on with your host and how you set this up to actually debug the
    problem.

  • Sorry to post twice, but editing is a bit weird here.

Just to clarify, the server is sending an explicit message to the web
browser that it should display the text as-is and not draw it as HTML.

I think Internet Explorer tends to ignore those sorts of things.
Obviously if you can see it your browser does. It could be Angelfire's
fault, or there could be some parameter in a .htaccess file you edited
(I'm not sure how far angelfire lets people go with the editing).

There is no easy way. It's like asking "how can I make a program?" -- reading a few how-to's on the 'net won't teach you the fundamentals, which is what you really need in order to make a tolerable looking website.

Go take a Visual Communciations 101 class at your local community college. I did that a year or two ago and it was a very well spent $110.

Sure, and of course the multiple use of the BODY tag without proper
end-tags. The head tag that is after the body tag, which would compare
to your head growing out your arse if you ask me... You might like it
    but it's a bit unusual...

But the reason why it is shown as text? Well, you're using some hosting
service and this host looks at the file extention of your page. If it
ends with .htm or .html then it will say: "This is a HTML page, so lets
send it as HTML." But since you've forgotten to add this extention, the
host is just presenting it as text... And technically, all html pages
are just text, but in general the host will tell the visiting browser
some more information about the page it presents. The browser then uses
this information to determine how to show the page you've requested.

Of course, the title tag is also located on the wrong position and to
be honest, whomever wrote this page has absolutely no clue about how
HTML works. Just typing in some html-like commands just doesn't
generate a valid page. Read a book first! Or visit good sites about
html. Isn't there a "HTML for Dummies" available somewhere? If so, buy
it, read it, then start working on your page because now... YIKES!!!

  • Adding ".html" to the end of the file name might help. As to the design... throw it away and start again
