WTF chats?
-
I have a chat open, and when I scroll up past the top of it, it keeps repeating a couple lines over and over. When I first received it, it repeated some random lines as well. Something's wrong here and I don't have time today to put together a more detailed report
-
I can't reproduce in chat 6456.
-
Scrolled up again. This time I got two copies of a chunk of the chat, but it stopped at the right place.
-
I've opened up a bunch of my existing chats and scrolling up seems to be working as I'd expect. There must be something else going on here.
-
@ben_lubar neither can I. And I think I am part of the chat in question.
Did you restart some server while the chat was starting, @ben_lubarFiled Under: I remember when a chat I was in broke Discourse...

I still need to figure out what's causing the cooties.

yeah, it's the chat with you.
It works now. Could have to do with undocking and redocking my laptop as I went between meetings? Maybe the websocket just hiccuped?
-
@Yamikuronue Maybe the meetings were so boring that the socket just died?
Filed Under: Meetings tend to be that way

Did you ever stop to think that maybe @ben_lubar was just posting nonesense gibberish?

Did you ever stop to think that I might not be @ben_lubar but instead @boomzilla?

-
@Lorne-Kates No, why would I stop to think that?
Filed Under: Unless you are trying to tell me you want me to... very suspicious

I got home and had like six chats open on my home PC. Also could have been a confounding factor.
...websockets are weird.
-
Issue is still reproducible and still incredibly stupid.

Browser: firefox
-
@CreatedToDislikeThis Oh yeah, it's still reproducible for me as well. It has to be around the beginning of a chat, so if you have a long-running one, it won't work.
-
Yeah, I saw this a day or two ago on the mobile interface. Is it happening on normal NodeBB chat too?
-
@masonwheeler yes
-
-
@Lorne-Kates I actually reproduced it just a few days ago, but I reread the thread and decided not to bother saying anything.
-
oh hey

That happens a lot, and the infrastructure really doesn't cope well with it. Yeah, we're using some JS library that is supposed to handle the reconnect. It doesn't, least not reliably. It gives a really strong impression of being part of the space of problems, not the space of solutions…

IRC works well but people just idle there
-
@fbmac
I would have figured you'd be anti-IRC since there's no mechanism to delete posts.

-
@izzion It's cool because the server doesn't keep them and Google doesn't store them either. It's like if they were auto deleted

I'm sure that a bot could be written to resolve that issue …

if i'm in the channel there is a permanent log..... if you can decrypt it without my private key you're welcome to them all.

Hey, that's how they found the Cloudflare vulnerability.
