Microsoft is keeping me safe apparently

  • Yesterday I tried using my Surface for the first time in a while, and it instead decided to install an update which took literally an hour. It was late at night so the moment it finished I just turned it off and went to sleep instead.
Now today, I turn it on and it has some stupid introductory message saying how it's "getting things ready" and that the update is to "help protect you in an online world" or some such nonsense. Which would be fine if it didn't immediately log in without asking for my password, which it previously always required.
Good job, MS, your update is stupid.

immediately log in without asking for my password,

It only does that once, on the assumption that you were waiting on it because you were trying to use it before it slammed your work into the ground to do the update.

There's an option in the control panel to turn that off.
