    Pinky Promise Mafia

    THE RULES

    1. If by some miracle you’re able to post in this thread and aren’t a living player, do not post and report the situation to me. If you want to comment on the ongoing game or berate a player for being an idiot, PM me to apply to the official peanut gallery.
    2. Important: do not report posts in any faction/private thread. There are moderators playing, and reporting a post makes it visible to them regardless of permissions. Summon one of the site administrators instead.
    3. When in doubt, ask questions via your role card chat. I may or may not answer depending on the nature of the question, but you can be sure all communication via chat will be kept private.
    4. Each player should have obtained a role card via chat. The role card contains:
      • Your flavor role, or “position”. This information has no gameplay value, and you can share it freely for roleplay purposes.
      • Your factional allegiance. You’re probably better off not sharing that.
    5. You are not allowed to quote your Role PM directly, or any other private communication with me for that matter. You can paraphrase it, you can make things up about your role, you can invent a role, but you can’t post a quote from your role card. There will be a publicly visible example of every role card active in this game (Excluding the flavour only portion).
      • Flavor role part is excluded from this rule.
    6. You’re heavily encouraged to save your Role PM outside of the chat. NodeBB’s private messaging system is… not suited for long-time storage.
    7. This is an Open Setup Game. All roles active in the game are shown below, there are no other roles in play.
    8. This is a non-bastard game. A full role PM will be revealed upon death unless otherwise specified, and the GM will not lie to you, deceive you, give you up, let you down, run around and desert you.
    9. This is a flavour game. There’s no guarantee that commonly-known Mafia terminology will be used.
      • Where any flavour is used that corresponds to commonly known Mafia terminology it will be acompanied with a link to the relevant page on the mafia scum wiki
    10. You can quit the game at any time, either by PM or by public announcement. Abuse of this mechanism to gain advantage will have severe consequences.
    11. Do not edit, bookmark or like posts. You shouldn’t be able to, but if you manage to find a clever way to do it anyway, Club Ded will not be amused.
    12. Do not contact other players or Club Ded members outside of threads marked for this purpose, and do not discuss the game anywhere but in those threads. The Big Brother watches you.
    13. Do not encrypt, obfuscate or alter your posts, or use content which can be altered (outside-hosted images, oneboxes, etc.). Report (via your role card chat) all posts which infringe this rule.
    14. Do not post during the time between end of day lynch and receiving the lynch results. This rule applies to all threads, not just the main thread.
    15. You have to post in the main thread once every 24 hours. And no, if for some reason I don’t do an attendance count on a given day, you’re not off the hook. Don’t gamble with the GM.

    GamePlay Rules

    1. Mafia do NOT have daytalk in this game, once day begins the only communication will be via the game thread.
    2. Players do NOT have nighttalk in this game, once a day ends, either with a lynch or by the day timer expiring, players cannot post in the game thread. Only Mafia may communicate during the night.
      • Night begins when the bot announces the hammer and indicates that it is now night. While the GM will endeavour to post the flip (and lock the thread) as soon as possible after the hammer, once the lynch is announced it is considered night and players must not post in thread.
    3. You may choose your target for your night action during the day phase if you wish. Doing so will register your intent to use your action against that target the next night.
    4. You may change your mind on who you want to target as often as you wish
      • The GM reserves the right to get annoyed and issue punishment if you change your mind too often. ;-)
    5. Players who intend to Roleplay a character that has a different name than their username MUST contact @ben_lubar before the game begins so that he can use CSS magick to give your username a custom tag with your character name in game threads.
      • Failure to do this before the start of game is punishable by making the player play under their username instead of their chosen persona name.
    6. Hardcore RolePlay Mode is available in this game.
      • Players who wish to opt in to Hardcore RolePlay Mode agree to create a character based on their role card and NOT break character during the course of the game.
      • Players who are playing Hardcore RolePlay Mode who break character (as determined by Club Ded) will be subject to punishment as if they had missed a daily checkin, this punishment includes the possibility of a modkill.
      • Players may opt into, or out of, Hardcore RolePlay Mode before the game starts. Once the game starts you're locked in (or out)
        • Players default to being opted out of Hardcore RolePlay Mode
      • Players who have opted into Hardcore RolePlay Mode are:

    Flowers Used In Game

Flowers are used in game as calling cards for wandering players, and for Club Ded to keep score of Daily MVMP, MARP and RHNG. Because of this and because players who visit and have an active role will not leave a flower the number of flowers handed out each night is variable and is expected to change from night to night.

    Club Ded Award Flowers

The Club Ded awards have no value to game play, and which flowers correspond to which will not be revealed until end of game. The flowers serve as a thumbs up or "kudos" to the player that earns them. These bonus flowers will not have any bearing on the winners of the game.

    MYLO vs. LYLO

In this game MYLO and LYLO will be calculated assuming that the faction kill is unopposed (that is, it will assume that no night role interferes with the kill attempt)

LYLO will be declared when # of scum is one less than the # of townies meaning that a mislynch will end the game without a night phase

MYLO will be declared when the # of scum is two less than the # of townies meaning that a mislynch will move the game into LYLO and the night phase will be assumed to result in a townie death and end of game (it is possible to mislynch in MYLO and not lose due to townie power roles, but the next day if it occurs will be LYLO)

With the complete and total collapse of the Spellars Town Council the funerary flowers business in the area blossomed. Soon there were dozens of small flower shops competing against each other. And yet, even with all the competition, such was the demand for flowers that all prospered and grew fecund.

But things were not to be so good for long. As the town recovered and grew once more, the demand for funerary flowers died out, slowly at first, but inexorable was the decline. many shops closed entirely, or changed to a different field of business, but fifteen shops remained, they formed a guild of flower merchants to regulate the trade and each shop specialized into a single flower, to better spread what little business remained.

And, for a time, it was good.

On the morning of the eighty fourth meeting of the Flower Sellers Guild, in the very same public hall where the Spellars town Council meet it's final fate seven years ago, the merchants arrive to find a grisly sight. The body of @accalia, current chairperson of the council and specializing in Nightshade flowers, is propped up against the front wall of the hall, her hands are missing their pinky fingers and an Angel's Trumpet flower, a variety that no merchant in the town has has ever specialized in, been placed so that it appears to be growing out of the single bullet hole in her forehead. On the wall behind her, scrawled in what is presumably her own blood is the message: "You broke your promise. Since you will not pay your debt, We will collect it in blood, from everyone who owes us."

The murderer must be one of the council members, as for the last seven years, since the fall of the Spellars Town Council the Flower Merchants Guild has had the only keys to this building, the doors were secured when the living councilors arrived, and a quick inspection of the premises reveal no signs of forced or illicit entry.

Day 1 will begin on September 5th at 0700 Eastern (1300 UTC) and will end on September 10th at 0700 Eastern (1300 UTC)

    Good luck to all players.

As the last of the paramedics depart with the body of our friend, and most recent chairperson of the guild, @accalia zipped into a body bagone of them places several items on a desk near the entrance, among the odds and ends and pocket lint there is a note...

The ones that wish me harm will at soon, I must be ready for them. They have a couple of wanderers, they must not
distract me from the one who prevents me from acting. that one is the most dangerous of all my enemies.

They want to destroy the guild, kill the other members and take all for themselves. they are greedy and must not
    be allowed to succeed.

It seems that @accalia wrote this note to help her somewhat fragile memory, it didn't help her, but at least it may yet help those who yet live.

It is now Day one, day one will end at 1200 UTC on Saturday September 10th

Well, damn. I spend all night writing up the minutes of the last meeting because @accalia gave me such a hard time last time, and now I find out there was no need?

I think the agenda for this meeting is going to be dominated by this Any Other Business item as well.

On a serious note, damn, who would do something like this? From the note, it sounds like there is some sort of cartel trying to remove competition. What a way to go about it though.

Violet wanders into the town hall, her hands in her pockets, whistling a tune. She appears to be a slim, carefree teenager with short, wavy brown hair sporting a purple streak to one side; however, she has appeared this way for the past seven years, never seeming to grow up. That's the only thing that hasn't changed about her; no-one has ever seen her in the same outfit twice. She may have once wrested control of the council, but she had lost that control quickly, and never seemed to be quit bothered by her spectacular failure.

Violet gives a little snap and a twirl, then a shriek. The former were because of a particularly lovely riff in her song; the latter because she's just come face-to-face with the corpse. Her amethyst eyes widen in horror, her face paling.

    "What the actual fuck?"

  • @accalia said in Pinky Promise Mafia - Game Thred:

"You broke your promise. Since you will not pay your debt, We will collect it in blood, from everyone who owes us."

Wait, does anyone remember ever taking any loans or anything like this?

Anyway, let's round everyone up. If I'm correct, we are the following:

5 Vanilla Town, 2 Visitor Town, 1 Doctor Town, 1 Roleblocker Town, 1 JOAT Town for a total of 10 Town, and
1 Mafia Goon, 2 Mafia Visitors, 1 Mafia Roleblockers for a total of 4 Mafia.

Is there any reasonable information we can hope to gain today? Or shall we wait for what the darkness of the night brings us?

Maybe we should begin with introducing our floral associations. Me, I'm dealing with azaleas.

I also think we should find out who the wanderers are. I'd rather not out our more powerful roles, but it seems like knowing who they are might help us to then verify their claims.

The flowers, at the very least, are one of the few hints we have right now. It would be foolish to just give up on them.

As for the roles... I do not know. I don't suppose everyone should tell everything so early, but it would be good to gather at least some knowledge now that we finally have something to try and fit it against.

I suppose we could, as usual, rely on our suspicions and trust in gut feelings - but that rarely ends well, does it?

  • Impossible Mission - B

@Maciejasjmj I agree with outing the flowers and the wanderers. It gives us some information to work on and detect inconsistencies.

Violet moves closer to Maciej, her tone growing lower, darker, as she speaks. There's an intensity in her piercing eyes that hasn't been there before, an unspoken accusation.

A moment later, she backs up, laughing as if at a particularly clever joke. "Ha! But I'm sure I'm just paranoid. I sell Wisteria these days. I love how it matches my eyes."

  • Winner of the 2016 Presidential Election

Claiming wanderers seems premature. The enemy wanderers could also claim, in fact it would seem sensible for them to do so, and they gain some cover.

Even worse, non wanderer enemies could claim and then if they take any of us down we wouldn't know if they were genuinely wanderers or out on a rampage.

Why do you want us to weaken our position, @Maciejasjmj?

  • @Yamikuronue said in Pinky Promise Mafia - Game Thred:

Oh, but we shouldn't be putting all our cards on the table, that would be foolish. Just enough to take the trick.

@Jaloopa said in Pinky Promise Mafia - Game Thred:

The enemy wanderers could also claim, in fact it would seem sensible for them to do so, and they gain some cover.

Quite the opposite. Being a wanderer means there's a 50 percent chance of them being scum. That's not a very good cover if you're not honest.

If anything, it would be smarter for them not to claim - however, if they do so, they risk being tracked with no explanation. Either way, there's a chance for a contradiction to emerge, something unexplainable when we assume everyone's telling the truth - and that is how we catch liars.

And I don't see how it weakens our position. Assuming the scum will want to pick the power roles, they still have 5 vanilla townies to choose from as well.

Do you have any other proposals then, @Jaloopa? If we want to keep ourselves fully in the dark, what else shall - or can - we do to resolve the situation?

  • Victor had taken a bit more time getting to the public hall, being a bit more reserved that his sister. His 'twin' sister as he claimed, though he looked a couple of years older than her. While she was constantly changing, he was fairly the same. Same slacks, shirt, cuff-links, short hair. Very stable in that. the only real change was the ties that he wore since Violet had a habit of hiding the one from the previous day. Still, he looked shocked by the body and then at his sister.

"Given the circumstances, I would think you would be a bit more reserved. Someone is dead and apparently may kill others. What I am not sure of is how we should proceed. Hopefully you can be...calm enough to assist with that, sister?"

As usual, her brother's restrictions only serve to wind Violet up. "Calm? Calm! I'll give you calm!" she shouts, jumping onto a chair. Thankfully, her cherry-speckled white sundress is tight enough to avoid flashing the room her panties as she does.

Still, she gives the room a wink, indicating that she's merely being playful and not seriously about to cause a scene. She does, however, shout: "I HAVE NOTHING TO DECLARE!"

Kendric strides hurriedly into the room with a packet under his arm.

"Sorry I'm late, accalia, I have the materials you asked me to pi—"

He glances around the room, stopping as he notices the yellow tape and somber faces of his fellow guild-members.

"What has become of the honorable chairperson?"

Seeing the note, he frowns and examines it carefully before speaking.

"My colleagues, it would seem we have a conspiracy afoot. accalia had confided in me that she had realized that she had realized that many of us had begun growing flowers other than our official strains, and asked me to bring her some transaction paper such that she could track flower exchanges beyond the feeble extent of her memory. I have the paper here, but as accalia is now unable to carry out her intent, we would do well to do so for her. Ought we to commence with the Angel's Trumpet here, or is it one of the rumoured foreign imports?"

He strokes his beard before continuing.

"This violence seems brutally beyond any of us, but could have been inflicted by any, feeble or mighty. We must tread carefully, and root out this ringleader who must be slipping grains of hemlock into our water supply."

No, that sounds terrible. It only takes one scum to figure out a hint, and it takes the entire town to do so.

We're merely outing the wanderers. True, the scum will want to keep them alive, but the more... accuitous may still hide among those with no abilities at all.

A fair coin is better than a weighted one we have now. And if we know enough and use logic to our advantage, we may not need to rest our fate in the hands of Fortune at all.

But if we're going to discard the knowledge we already have instead of building on it, we might as well throw dice.

What, you thought you'll just jump out of the window and go to the pub?

  • Created, a moody old man the council has long grown to... acknowledge the existence of, limps about to the meeting, a basket with his flowery wares in hand

Upon witnessing the body, Created frowns and turns to the layabouts surrounding the place
"Well, I see the young never rest."

Created stands besides @accalia and whispers a prayer, mumbling "May your death be of old age" before realizing this not be a choice prayer on the already dead

Created then, leering warily at the layabouts, goes to check the minutes so far so that he can see what he's being dragged into this time

No, that sounds terrible. It only takes one scum to figure out a hint, and it takes the entire town to do so.

Paced clicks of claws upon stone herald the arrival of Lotharam, a rather unique druid who is obsessed with flowers. His luxurious tail flows behind him, a slight breeze rustling his russet and white fur, as he walks with a careful and measured stride into the hall. He looks around at the somber crowd with a confused tilt to his ears before his emerald eyes alight on the crime scene and widen with surprise and shock. He flicks his wrist and conjures a small bouquet of Rhododendrons to place at @accalia's seat and kneels, reciting a short chant in hushed tones. He stands up and looks around.

"Well, I daresay this is a most unfortunate occurence. I vow to use all of my druidic might to help bring whichever scoundrels are responsable for this travesty. Alas, my powars are quite limited in that I may only manipulate organisms of the plant variety. I have no practicle skills for an investigation, though I do believe if it came down to open combat, I could perhaps subdue the fiends with roots, or distract them with flower petals."

Lotharam casts his gaze across the room, noting that some few members of the Guild are still absent.

"Have any among us presently notafied @ChaosTheEternal, @dangeRuss, and @xaade of this terrible happening? We must inform the rest of the Guild at once, that we may put our collective intellacts toward identifying those responsible for this heinous crime.

  • Looking up from the minutes, Created stares at @Maciejasjmj with open contempt
"I think it'd be wise (a foreign concept, to be sure) to refrain from revealing any hands we may be graced to have this early. Our goal, need I remind you, is to learn about our enemies, not teach them about us."

In a swift move, Created covers his basket with a black cloak; though the alert among the layabouts may have noticed their yellow color beforehand

  • Created caresses his now-covered basket of flowers and continues, turning to @abarker this time

"What makes you think the note is a riddle? It seems to match the information we know about ourselves and our enemies as regurgitated by @Maciejasjmj."

Turns to @Yamikuronue and @cloak15 next, but just to give a long angry stare followed by a spit

    Lotharam huffs, irritated at @Maciejasjmj.

"While I quite agree that tactics of a logical sort are more useful than psychological tactics tend to be, and I do believe that we would be best served by reminding the Guild of our flowers of choice, the better to identify inconsistencies, I nearly think that revealing our wanderors so early may not be to our advantage, as that narrows the pool of potential targets from which our most powerful Guild Members may be identified and neutralized before they may be brought to bear against our hidden foes. It may be a sound plan tactically, but strategically, it seems the hight of folly."

Lotharam narrows his eyes and lays back his ears, the breeze rustling his fur picking up speed and disturbing the papers near him.

"I wonder at your apparently pointless attempt at delaying useful investigation by concealing your blooms of choice and encouraging others to do the same, while simultaneusly using an utterly transparent method of concealment. I know not if this paltry delay in the investegation, this worthless misdirection of our pondering, is to be attributed to malice or stupidity, but to save everyone some of our precious time, I do believe I shall put an end to it directly."

Lotharam raises a brown-furred paw, pads pointing towards @abarker as a green light gathers between his claws, shooting at @abarker and bursting upon his chest, leaving in its wake a small pin of Mountain Laurel. Lotharam huffs impatiently at the purveyor of the Calico Bush, then turns his muzzle towards Created.

"And you, elder flowor salesman, I wonder why you also wish to conceal your preferred bloom. A yellow flower could be any number of our town's favorites, but there is no purpose of which I am aware for hiding these flowers, as they are not tied derectly to any other aspect of who we are - revealing your choice will not make you are target, nor will it exonerate you, at least until such time as we know more about where these flowers are to be found. Unless you fear that your flower will be found at the scene of criminol activity?"

  • Created looks at @abarker in disdain
"I thought your riddle was intended to narrow down the flower, not reveal it after a pointless library-browsing "puzzle". That is indeed utterly pointless. As can be expected."

    Turns to @fox
"I like the idea of giving some base information now that a later claim (at a more prudent time) can verify. I think it gives a good balance between solidifying information and avoiding revealing it. You must remember that revealing flowers is the same as revealing wanderers, ultimately, so requesting a partial reveal from everyone may be of higher benefit"

    Lotharam tilts his head.

"It is not, in point of fact, the same as revealing wanderers, as the point at which such information can be used to identify wanderers will be after we have enough information to perhaps make use of that information, whereas revealing wanderors right now, today, is not helpful to us yet, unless we intend to simply lynch one of them once we have all four out in the open, and place our hopes in our 50% chance of lynching a fiendish wanderer. Personally, I think it unlikely that all four of our wanderers will even come foreward, and even then I doubt that this small tactical advantage will prove more beneficial to us than the aforementioned strategic advantage will be for our foes."

Chrissake, people. RP doesn't mean "talk as flowery as possible", despite the theme of the game.

It doesn't narrow the pool down by much - mere two people who can wander in safety as long as they keep honest with us. If we find ourselves at a point where this is a substantial advantage for the opponents, the situation will be dire for us.

If we can make the heads and tails out of this situation without outing them, very well. But I'd rather not find myself in a place where, missing any data, we just decide to off whoever annoys us the most.

Kendric, having risen at the entrance of @CreatedToDislikeThis, now addresses him:

"Created, we understand that you are one of the hoar-headed fathers of our trade, and that your caution is well-warranted. Yet as one of our elders we intreat your cooperation in the investigation. Much mistrust has already been engendered by the events before us, and while we should count it childish folly to proffer our innermost secrets to this assembly at this early hour, yet still must we consider the sacrifice of our secret livelihoods before the sacrifice of our very lives. Nor shall I be duplicitous in this myself any longer."

So saying, Kendric reaches into his waistcoat and produces, with a mild flourish, a sprig of Foxglove while reciting:

"Would that all deal as this simple flow'r:
Draw from our beauty some hidden pow'r.
For the noble amongst us furnish cure —
Strike death to those who are impure."

  • Created spits again, the floor beneath him growing moist

"So at least 8 people already revealed their prized wares. Those @Maciejasjmj caught and @Fox who trades in Rhododendrons"
"I wouldn't be surprised if a few other layabouts made their reveals already while I was too preoccupied with ignoring their futile actions, so at the very least we best not miss any, letting our enemies gobble up all this knowledge you all are vomiting in their direction".

    Kendric continues,

"Rather would I not incite the quicker-blooded amongst us, such as one barely restrained from regrettable theatrics as @Yamikuronue (though, Violet, we realize your grief at losing one nearly closer than a sister) to action much more regrettably final."

Furthermore, it seems to me that we are not missing data, as long as we are granted the knowlidge of which efflorescence is sold by each member of our guild. And I think it is foolishness to grant these wanderers a free pass for being 'honest', as we hawe no way of verifying the rest of their claims at present."

"I see that your legendairily lacking perspicacity is in full bloom today, old friend. First, you may recall that the flower placed upon pour @accalia's body was the Angel's Trumpet, so anyone who is fond of this flower would undoubtedly be wary of revealing this penchant for divinity at this early hour. Secondly, if you had been paying attention earlier, you would likely have noticed that it was I who placed the bouquet of Rhododendrons at the recently vacated seat at the chareperson's spot."
