We ran out of electrons!

Just ordered an ebook from Barnes & Noble--wife had a $62 credit from the Apple price-fixing settlement.
3 seconds later I get an email that says "We're sorry, but we weren't able to fulfill some or all of the items in your order, as listed below. The item(s) are not available in our stock. "
And a second email that says the same thing, and a third that says I got my order. Hmmm, when I turn on the tablet which will it be.

You have the books and a bill for full price and no sign of a credit?
-
So, which was it?
Don't keep us in
-
...suspense!

-
@Luhmann so FrostCat didn't get his e-book? Or did he?
-
@Arantor
Hmm ... I couldn't find a nice wordplay on Exit with Kindle or e-book so you'll have to do with a frozen cat
-
@Luhmann maybe the author was British and B&N are awaiting the outcome before deciding how to proceed.
-
@Arantor
Sounds like @FrostCat would be faster if he lent the book from the library and typed it in to read it on his Kindle.
-
@FrostCat There's a reason Amazon kicked their ass.

Ok, I tried buying the ebook from the Nook app and got the real error. They sent me two emails, one of which said that if they can't verify that I'm in the US, they can't sell me the book (but didn't say that's why they cancelled the sale) and another saying they were out of stock. The app said that I don't have a credit card on file, which is true, because I don't have that card any longer. Apparently, the website lies when it says my credit will be used before they bill my card.

I know. But I didn't get an Amazon credit.

@FrostCat I remember reading a story about a library that had some trouble lending out ebooks. I think they were required by the publisher to have one physical copy per digital copy or something like that. Maybe it's a publisher thing.
-
@bb36e My university library works that way - I was viewing a digital version of a book when my internet dropped. Tried to navigate to it again but it was "in use" and there was nothing I could do. Their servers thought someone else (me) was still accessing it and therefore I could not access it until they stopped accessing it.

I bet their checkout system requires you to have a credit/debit card on file even if they're not going to bill it. I'm not planning on giving them one, though, because they're supposed to use my free credit and I don't want to fuck around with trying to get a refund because they "accidentally" billed my card (and, more importantly, because they say "no refunds on ebooks").

internet dropped
Wouldn't have been easier to just pick it up again?
-
@Luhmann No way, have you seen how dirty the floor is in some parts of the university? It was easier to open a whole new internet contract and just close the old one and pay the early termination fee. When was the last time you saw someone walking around the streets picking up dropped packets? Did you think they wanted to be doing that? If so, did you also think they were mentally healthy?

Almost 24 hours later and those fuckers haven't responded to my question. I guess I'm going to have to go down to a store and make some clerk's life miserable.
