You know, sometimes I see this thread's title and wonder what "Verable" is. Then I remember it isn't a separate word.

Wikipedia: Mechanical Calculator
Wikipedia: ComptometerI love the guy's energy. He's so excited about this thing:
"It has handles on either side! I can lift this up, and it only weighs 60 or 70 pounds! A portable calculator smaller than a piano! You can't get any cooler than that!"

Re: virtual monitor. Have you tried this? Haven't tried it on Win10, but this used to work with XP or 7. Otherwise, the VGA connector trick works, and you can do something similar with DVI connectors' analogue pins.
That didn't work, but I was able to use the Nvidia Control Panel to set my resolution to 4K@90hz even though the HDTV I'm using as a monitor only does 1080p@60hz. This got me more pixels, but everything is trying to DPI-scale things bigger. No! I'm trying to get more space; stop growing to fill it back up!
Edit: at least things look sharper
Editedit: found the setting to disable that bullshit!

It seems obvious in retrospect that that was a great way to get my computer stuck in a "signal unsupported" state on next reboot.

Well, that was way fucking harder than it needed to be to recover. It was complicated by the fact that the Bluetooth drivers (required for my keyboard) load after Windows sets the resolution to the unsupported resolution.
So I couldn't drop into BIOS settings or Safe Mode type stuff before the login screen, and I couldn't see anything by the time my keyboard worked.immediately goes to set the resolution back to 4K

@error good thing they use a GUI, CLIs are just so hard to use
see in linux this would have been as easy as
$ sudoedit /etc/X/X11/Xorg/XF86/xorg.conf && su -c aux [ sudo syspactl init -cvj0 -X /sys/class/driver/less/cars --nofoo ] > $LESS_TERMCAP_EXEC -o $@?

I agree about Windows sucking for this kind of thing (though it's still got a huge lead for gaming).
I'm installing AutoHotKey so I can set an easier-to-remember keyboard shortcut:
Love that OneBox magic. Also love how I have three linebreaks after that link and this text is still on the next line.

@dkf Good thing you left off the extra dash, otherwise that command might actually do some damage to someone's virtual machine.

immediately goes to set the resolution back to 4K
Apparently my GTX 980 shits itself after one or two hours pushing a 4K signal. Need to force a hard reboot, then go through the pain of getting back into 1080p.
Filed under: Well, at least it was only the second most expensive component.

Recommend setting up a Vnc server to make it quicker.
