Apache Cordova, Thoughts?

Has anyone built anything using this for a mobile device?
Looking at the home page and playing around making a web app it seems to work quite nicely and the documentation seems to be fairly decent. It doesn't assume that you are going to use a particular framework.
I am intending to architech the web application using Angular 2 / React with a OWIN / Web API 2 web service as a backend.
Yes I have looked at Ionic but I don't like how it is tied to a particular framework.
Edit: No baking involved :D

I once observed / helped a bit with a cordova project. The impression was that the application is slow.
