Livestreaming

If I wanted to livestream something, do Kids These Days still use twitch.tv, or are they all hanging out at Google? Or is there something else.
I want to plug a camera into my computer, point it at something, and stream that. Possibly record the stream.
Fake edit: no it isn't sex
Fake edit 2: or pooping
Fake edit 3: or childbirth

Twitch for gaming stuff, YouTube for US politics.

What about adventures in automotive repair / misc other random things like that?
-
@Lorne-Kates YouTube appears to allow streaming anything:
https://www.youtube.com/live_dashboard_splash
Twitch is definitely only for gaming and gaming-related stuff.
-
@Lorne-Kates I think a lot of people use Google Hangouts for things like livestreaming drawing, writing, et cetera. For everyday life stuff there's Periscope.
-
@Lorne-Kates twitch is only for video games and creative works right now (ie: drawing, music), everything else is YouTube.
-
@Lorne-Kates Twitch.tv (used to?) only allow video gaming-related content.
It looks like livestream.com has gone all business-to-business. They used to have free download of their client, which worked reasonably well, and allowed anybody to stream anything.
That leaves... hitbox.tv and YouTube. Hitbox might also be video games only, I honestly do not know. YouTube is ok with streaming anything, but it used to be you had to have a certain number of videos before you could use it-- not sure if that limitation still exists.
-
There doesn't appear to be any restriction. I've used youtube for streaming nest box cameras (24/7 for weeks at a time) without having used my account for anything beforehand.
-
Fuck, YouTube requires a "verified" account which means giving them my cell number. Nope.
Twitch is gaming.
HItbox.tv 's site doesn't even load for me, so I'm not struggling to get that working.
Maybe I'll just rent a VPS and install a stream server on it.

Turn off all your shit-blocker extensions and just use a normal-ass browser. It works fine.

FFS people livestream that?!
I would think it's a rather personal and private matter, but these days I guess...
-
@Lorne-Kates try ustream.tv?
Going to admit I've never looked into them, but... Maybe?
But I don't know if it's free to broadcast, or just a trial...
After looking at it... You're really better off using YouTube. Can you register with a Google voice free number?

I did and it didn't. Not even a "our site needz js" or "omg old browser lol oldfag" message. Not even an HTML homepage with the standard header/footer links including "about us".
For the record, I went to twitch's site with js blocked, and it loaded fine. I could read their FAQ and check on their video-game-related requirements.

I am certain they do. Or certain enough that I had to put in that disclaimer. Livestreaming a birth is important, because how else can I make the literal start of someone else's life all about ME ME ME!

I'll check it out.

I doubt it. I'm in and we're still waiting for the release of the Colecovision.
-
@Lorne-Kates Google voice just comes with a number I think? I don't know that you actually have to be from the usa, if you make a throw away Google account registered to usa?
Shrug, idk. You can always try the creative section of twitch and see what happens, assuming sfw content. Twitch has been experimenting with new stuff on the creative tag, where you say you're playing creative, and use #tags in your title for what you're doing.
Just be willing to accept shutdown if you go that route.

From https://support.google.com/voice/answer/115061?hl=en:
Right now, Google Voice is only available in the U.S.
-
@RaceProUK yeah, but what's stopping you from registering as a us account? It's not like they ask for a ssn. The calling is for us only unless you buy minutes, but if you're just using it as a throw away for YouTube...
-
@Matches yeah, I make burner Google voice accounts regularly. Just create a Gmail account.

Now I'm tempted to watch The Truman Show again... thanks. :/

There are many below.
The first live birth I remember hearing about was in like '98 and on national television here.
Before that (and before I remember) Denmark had this:

Also somewhat NSFW.

Google Hangouts
If it's just to a fairly small group, Hangouts work pretty well. About as onerous as using Skype, except without the sucky local app upgrade policy.
