Whats this called?
-
Is there a formal name for those diagrams everyone uses to talk about tech stacks? The ones with the layers that look like this
-
@Weng i'll take "overcomplicated" for five hundred, Alex.
-
@accalia
And Enterprise for 500
-
@accalia Ha, that one is an adorable little baby compared to the monstrosity I'm building for an explanatory meeting next week.
-
-
@Weng A quick Googling tells me that they have the incredibly imaginative name of 'Layer Diagrams'
-
@accalia that's simple compared to some of them I see.
-
After a Google I was going to say "stack diagram" but my Googling apparently just found the page you got that diagram from so I guess you've discounted that answer already.
I can't remember what we call them at work.

yes, i thought that really odd of you to spell overcomplicated that wrong.....

@ben_lubar The OSI model's just really for networking. It doesn't really say much about the non-OS parts of the system.

It doesn't even include Layer 8
-
@Weng It's called a cock gobbler.
... oh wait is this in Help? No, it's in General.
It's called a cock gobbler.
-
It is a "Burger" or "Cake".
-
My cake is all skewed and not in any way uniform. Hella butt awful wooden table and compression intended for anonymization.
-
@Weng Man, WTFCorp must be awful. You don't get the budget for big enough wooden tables even if they are just virtual?
-
@Weng I expected worse than that from WTFCorp.
-
@loopback0 the yellow blocks are going to get exploded into subdiagrams.
The red blocks are "other systems out of scope for this particular discussion can plug in here" that represent anywhere between 0 and 1000 other systems. This is but a slice of a subecosystem that makes up a tiny portion of our overall ecosystem.

I know that feeling.

My first knee jerk was to call that the "haphazard model".
But you've obviously put a lot of thought into it, so that's not fair.
I think I would call it the "<service> Delivery Model" diagram. I think the official name, if there is one, is "stack diagram". (Google)

@loopback0 Ah yes, Layer 8. At $WORK we've replaced saying "It's PEBKAC" and "It's an ID-ten-T problem" by accusing Layer 8.
