Twitter "better focueses" on Tweetdeck by shutting it down
-
Want a more seemless, richer, better focused Tweetdeck experience? Well, buddy boy, Twitter's got your back! Or at least they've got buzzwords to explain why they're saying "fuck you".
Basically:
- Tons of users hate Twitter's web UI, so they use the Windows desktop program instead. That features sanity such as timelines in the order of time-- no whizzbang popups all over the place-- no nags to retweet more-- and a whole host of other "does not have this shit and thus Twitter is usable"
- Whenever someone, anyone, ever complains about Twitter's web UI, they are told "lol newbfag use tweet deck like a real user", even though 99.9% of people have never heard of this. But it exists as an excuse for Twitter to not have to not suck at UI, because there's a Windows program people "should" be using instead
- So Twitter shuts it down
And speaking of useles shit UI, I have another NodeBB thread to start...
-
I really thought this seemed like a technical tour-de-force. Making a web application speak to your web service in a cryptographically secure way? Behind firewalls? I'm so impressed!
Then I read further.
The logical next step is to host tweetdeck at 'www.twitter.com' and then no more UI complaints, right? I think that might actually be the plan.

TweetDeck is garbage, too. And the "standalone app" was the same web app anyway, just rendered in a branded Chromium. So, honestly, no difference.
They killed any hope for better UI long ago with the API changes that forced third party clients to capitulate (right after I actually paid for one that made Twitter actually semiusable ).
-
@Lorne-Kates Yes, they're killing off the Windows application. However... TweetDeck has its own web UI... tweetdeck.twitter.com
Hell, the Chrome Extension has just been a link to that website for some time now.

twitter is still relevant and a thing?
Yup. A lot of giant international corporations and athletes/teams use it for press releases.
-
@Dragnslcr why?
-
@accalia Because it's a surprisingly effective way to get publicity
