Disappearing top bar on mobile needs to die.
-
On mobile, when you scroll down through the topic or the topic list, the top menu bar disappears. To bring it back, you need to scroll up a little and it reappears.
That's annoying in itself, but the problem is: on my browser (Dolphin), scrolling up a little faster also brings up the browser's tabs, which cover the top bar completely. So not only do you need to scroll up, you need to scroll up slowly enough for the browser not to override it.
You can still bring up the right sidebar, but good luck trying to make that top bar reappear.

@Maciejasjmj It shows the URL bar on Chrome as well, it's not just Dolphin where it's annoying.
-
@Onyx, on Safari it's not as bad (nothing gets hidden), I guess Apple just rulezzz, but it's awful when I want to scroll just that little bit up to view the just-hidden post. Then I scroll up, top bar rolls down and I have to scroll up even more to see what I wanted to see.
So fuck that shit, it does need to die!

IE on WInPhone has the URL bar at the bottom :P

I'm torn between that being genius or being horrible. How does it work in practice?

That sounds like a Dolphin problem to me: Browser's tabs cover the top of the page? Sick.

As it turns out, just as well as if it was at the top. It doesn't autohide, but then it's pretty small:
It's basically what is known inMetroModern UI language as the 'app bar'
-
@CoyneTheDup is right. It is a dolphin problem.
Use opera and everything will be allright

FWIW you can save the homepage as a homescreen shortcut in Chrome to get a nearly-native-app experience without the top bar and stuff. If you want that...

What's worse, when it appears, it's nearly useless as well.
Yes, I know I'm still on What the Daily WTF?. Yep, site logo is still the same. Yep, hamburger menu is still there. Nope, very little functionality here I want to have...

@Tsaukpaetra At least Discourse did something useful with that top bar, such as showing the thread's title.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I use it to click the logo and go back to the topic list

It has to be on the bottom. Otherwise, how can you reach it with your thumb? Some WinPhones have pretty big screens.

-
@HardwareGeek I guess they only sell Apple and Samsung phones to the long-thumbed people.

Samsung has a brillant solution for this, actually.
They let you reduce the area of the screen that's being used!

LOL and people gawk at my one-line keyboard!
-
@aliceif Are you sure that's not just an Enlightenment bug they are passing off as a feature?

A lot of this comes down to the meta tag on the page:
I am sure there is an equivalent for Windows Phone and Chrome on Android.
