Unknown error logged

  •

I wonder what the logs is saying...

    "Unknow error ocurred at..."

    Pretty easy to debug.

  • It says "this error has been logged"... which error, the unknown one?  What an insightful error.log that should be:

    2005060300 - Unknown Error.

    2005060301 - Unknown Error.

    2005060302 - Unknown Error.

    2005060303 - Unknown Error.

    2005060304 - Unknown Error.

    2005060305 - Unknown Error.

    2005060306 - Unknown Error.

    2005060307 - Unknown Error.

    2005060308 - Unknown Error.

    ....

        Lovely!

  • Or, as Larry Osterman's journal so kindly showed,

"Error in Exchange Connector: Operation Complete Successfully." After crashing. Yes, I suppose it crashed successfully....

  • While it may be a bit of a lie, it sure sounds better than "error we
know about but don't want to give you any information about because
    it's a security risk."

  • Then why not: "Unexpected Error" or "Something went wrong, the world
will implode on itself in 5 minutes" or "I know who you are and I know
    what you did!"?

Naw,  I suspect that it really means "Unknown error".  This
seems to be a typical thing among "modern" programmers -- specially the
ones with a VB background, whom are used to very limited error
    checking, if any at all!

  • How would this work, precisely? Just uncaught exceptions? Tut-tut

How about "Arithmetic error: 1=0.  Fact: There is 1 planet
Earth.  Therefore there are 0 Earths.  Therefore you do not
    exist.  Goodbye." 🙂

Oooh.. I like it. Subtle Nonexistence.

    [:D]  Me likes!!!

  • I did kind of steal it from "things that will not destroy the Earth" on
    the How To Destroy
The Earth page.  The last entry in that section is, perhaps,
one of the more important ones. [;)]

  • Reminds me of a software I used to work with in my previous life. I
sometimes participated in the translation of the user interface text's.
Once there was a new error message to translate that simply said:
    "Something went wrong".

  • Reminds me of the way Sierra used to descibe these "unknown" errors in their adventure engine in the DOS days.

"Oops, you did something we didn't expect"

    Notice the "you" here

At least it was a honest and perfectly appropriate error message. Yes, I know how adventure games are programmed.
