In side the box : Korea

I thought I might as well just create a thread that I post things I encounter in Korea.
Here is the first.
A Kenya man stabbed the clerk at an internet cafe with a chopstick to death.
The Kenya man came to Korea to attend a UNESCO event but he outstayed his visa and applied for asylum.
Now he is arrested and the police are investigating but the mand won't tell anything.
First asylum seeker violence case in Korea?
I thought it was interesting, except for the part the clerk dying. The comments section displays a few top comments which go
"People are crazy to think about accepting refugees"
"Blacks should be slaves"
"This isn't the only case. There are so many Chineses who commit crime in Korea"I'm pretty sure nobody here reads Korean but for the veracity's sake:Kenya man stabs a clerk with a chopstick to death
-
Shouldn't this be in the Kenya WTFs thread instead?
-
Not exactly related to Kenya but...
Yesterday, a South Asian man stubbed a shopkeeper with 20cm knife after he was accused with shoplifting (eat foods and leave without paying)
There was recently lots of news regarding there is increasing number of South Asian illegal immigrants to Hong Kong, because of UNHCR's decision to assign Hong Kong as a "safe place" for refugees, and crimes they commit while their asylum application is pending for process. They're starting to harm the public safety badly. Since the United Nations has never paid the bills of allowing them live here while waiting for the result, we certainly hope that we can stop accepting them and just exile them back to where they were.

Only if you think tigers live there

with a CHOPSTICK? Not that this is physically impossible. Actually a chopstick should work better than a blunt knife especially for the unskilled. Oh wait in Korea you don't usually pass out forks and knifes to guests anyway, do you? So yeah, work with the tools you have.
Next up, chopsticks with a broad safety tip. And reinforced core so it's not easy to break off the tip.And a metal solvent inside to dissolve the core in case the protective bamboo cover is removed. May need some way to contain and neutralize the solvent from endangering eaters.

Paatic surgery adver in Korea.
Plastic surgery among women are so common.
90% of the women at work have it.Oh wait but the photo is for a dental surgery. I will find the right one soon.
-
So this is an advert for a hands-on photoshop course?

Korean chopsticks are typically steel IIRC, so effective stabbing with them is very possible.
-
Now he is arrested and the police are investigating but the mand won't tell anything.
There's an easy solution to this: foreigners without authorization have no[1] rights. Take fingerprints and a DNA sample, and ship his ass back to Kenya on the next available flight, with a warning that if he's caught in Korea illegally ever again, it's straight off to jail.
[1] I'm not interested in quibbling about the boundaries of that statement; let's assume I actually mean something like "beyond basic human rights, i.e., not to be killed out of hand, tortured, etc., but certainly not the right to stay in the country, collect welfare, vote, etc."
-
Since the United Nations has never paid the bills of allowing them live here while waiting for the result, we certainly hope that we can stop accepting them and just exile them back to where they were.
Any immigrant or refugee committing a violent crime should result in an automatic expulsion and repatriation. In Westphalian context, people don't have a right to live in any country they want.
-
Maybe, but news also report that they're actively hired by gangsters to do things like "collect protection fees".
They've gradually become a significant burden for the city.
-
They've gradually become a significant burden for the city.
That just means you haven't bent over properly enough.
You have a social justice duty to accept them because they're behavior is easily explained by their oppressed position.
They really are good people, after all.
-
They've gradually become a significant burden for the city.
This is exactly why I said that. Guests have obligations, as well as the hosts. If the guests indulge in criminal behavior, it's time for them to go home.
-
If the guests indulge in criminal behavior, it's time for them to go home.
Not to mention it prevents them from negatively reflecting on the honest refugees any further, and thus reducing the strain on the social concerns.
If people see the government is willing to break PC to protect its citizens from criminal refugees, they'll have more trust in the country when it asks the people to continue to take in refugees.
-
Did he sharpen the chopstick?
That's... actually kind of impressive.
-
In my (relatively limited) experience it's common to get metal chopsticks at Korean restaurants.
-
Korean chopsticks are typically flat and metallic, afaik.
Korean chopsticks are typically steel IIRC, so effective stabbing with them is very possible.
-
Yes Korean chopsticks are usually stainless steel and flatter than round.

I've been given metal chopsticks on long-haul flights by Korean airlines subsequent to 9/11 when all the other airlines seemed to be using awful plastic sporks.
-
One of the things I miss most about my Uni days is that the store on campus I'd buy food from typically sold boxes of dokbokgi. I don't even know where I'd get any here. NZ had its advantages for sure.

I found this today while I was enjoying being a jobless.Just what cofé is it?

I don't know what bothers me more, the terrible translation or the extremely inappropriate use of scare-quotes.

Awesome, make the punishment for killing someone exactly the same as overstaying your visa.
Overstaying your visa should result in you being sent back to your country of origin. Overstaying your visa and murdering someone should result in you being sent back to your country of origin in a pine box.

Why would use a pine box? A plastic refuse sack works just as well and is much cheaper.

Much easier to tear. Wouldn't want the body falling out in transit.

Strangest thing about Korea I recently learned:
You can't just buy a SIM card whenever you want. Only Korean citizens can buy Korean phone numbers. Each person gets one cell phone number and it needs to be registered with the government and tied to an individual. Your phone number is like an ID card there.

TBH I'd be fine with just dumping the body in international waters and letting the sharks carry it home.

I'm torn. We have no way of knowing if we expel someone, if they'll go to jail or whatever in their own country, so that suggests we should put them in jail here, and then expel them. But then we have to pay for their jail time.
