SourceForge: Less shitty in future, we promise
-
SourceForge has finally stopped bundling malware with downloads!
We want to restore our reputation as a trusted home for open source software
Wouldn't it be easier to just shutdown the site? That train left years ago.
-
If they signed some legally binding promise saying they won't do any more crap like that again (as well as other stuff like deleting things without warning), they might have a chance to recover their reputation.
With just an apology? No way.

Background information: Slashdot and Sourceforge have a new owner since some time this month.
-
Someone less shitty than themselves, Satan?
-
Well, at least the step towards correcting problem deserves credit.
-
The fact that the DevShare program is eliminated before the announcement does show some level of sincerity, though.
-
Yeah, but at this stage they might add well just start a new service. Starting from zero is bad, starting from -5000 is harder.
-
Exactly. Trust is hard to get and easy to lose. Once lost it can be impossible to get back. You only have to look at Microsoft for an example.

wait wat really?
I might actually have to visit Slashdot then. I've boycotted them ever since FetaBuck, and have been reading Soylent News instead.

No it doesn't. It should be EXPECTED, and the entity doing the correcting needs to be grateful to every person than accepts their correction. People (and entities) need to stop being "rewarded" and "praised" for bothering to finally do the bare minimum of what's right.
If you cheat on your partner, you don't get "credit" for admitting it and promising not to fuck the secretary again. Instead you need to rebuild the trust and faith that you destroyed, and do whatever your partner needs to forgive you and move past it. And there is literally ZERO impetus on your partner to do that-- you fucked up, there is no obligation for your partner to ever forgive you, or accept you again. If, and only if, they are ready-- and that is entirely on their schedule-- they may chose to rebuild your relationship.
Sourcefroge literally betrayed everyone's trust-- in a way that's arguably criminal-- for profit. There is literally zero reason or expectation for anyone to "forgive" them, or to rally behind them. This isn't an underdog, come-back, against-the-odds story. It's a story of a filthy, lying, cheating criminal organization begging for forgiveness.

Looks Beta-ish to me. Is that some sort of infiniscrolling "load more" I see? (Javascript is off). I may have to log in to restore my settings.
We'll see. See above about regaining trust.

And then as an afterthought adding, "Trust us."

More like a filthy smelly hobo living on the fringe of the internet, but a veteran with a glorious past. It is sad.

They were bought by the Honey Bucket corporation, and immediately doubled the amount of shit the company collects.
-
There's plenty of useful code up on sourceforge. It's probably a good thing if they can keep on going.
-
I downloaded pngcrush from SourceForge yesterday, it's still shitty.

There's a few non legal characters there for that kind of thing, specifically the
i

characters. And possibly the spaces depending on interpreter.
-
Aren't those legal comments according to the spec?
-
Well, shit, there was me trying to be funny with a bad joke and some bloody comes in and ruins it. RUINS IT.
I only skim read the legal characters and buttumed all non commands were invalid because that's the spirit of Brainfuck and I've not seen commented Brainfuck beyond Wikipedia.
