The comments are interesting and seem legit representative of real world IT people - for once.

I have checked your link and edited the title to not scare away people who browse WTDWTF at work!
Filed Under: you are welcome :D

Except that the topic title/URL might not help those at work

Remarkably, these are actually in the exact same spot.
The "exact same spot" in two completely different cabinets.

Why is there a link to Buzzfeed?
-
Because it was Buzzfeed that published this?
-
Why would you give buzzfeed revenue for things that were blatantly stolen off of https://www.reddit.com/r/cableporn/top/?sort=top&t=all ?
I don't even use reddit but I've heard of that subreddit before.
Buzzfeed needs to die. They literally scrape content from reddit and make money off of it.

And? It's the fucking Internet, it's there to share information. It'd be pretty shitty if everything could only be posted to one site - especially for people who don't use Reddit.
-
And monetize it while producing pure clickbait? No. Stop.
-
So every other single website that has adverts and does the same should stop too?
Are people allowed to post things from Reddit on Facebook?
-
Maybe if buzzfeed produced quality content and added quality to what they stole and didn't produce clickbait articles I wouldn't have a problem with it.
Are people allowed to post things from Reddit on Facebook?
Sure, I guess? You don't make money by posting on Facebook, regardless of what those shady websites tell you.
-
-
que?
what are adverts?
Not sure. Someone told me they exist.
They seem to get mysteriously lost between the Internet and my browser though.
-
If I were permitted to install an adblocker on my work machine, I would. I still wouldn't go to buzzfeed out of principle, however.
-

by policy i'm not permitted either.
didn't stop me

See, my intended career field is in IT Security...I'd like to remain on their good side! :P Plus our legal department doesn't fuck around.
I'll probably broach the subject with them to see if we can get one on our proxy though, given the rise in malvertisements.
-

Our IT security knows about it. their only comment was "we didn't see this."
turns out for me at least our Computer use policies were not actually created by IT and so some of them are less well enforced than others.
-
less well enforced
I'll likely just see if I can get it approved. I certainly could hide it/get away with it, but it's not that big of a deal to me. Plus I like keeping my reputation for following the rules. :P

*cannot think of a reason why Security or Legal would be angry about blocking potentially malicious adverts*
-
"Approved software" and "Data access"
I can think of several reasons why Legal and Security would be angry about potentially malicious extensions as well as agreeing to LAs without permission.

The software hasn't been approved or whatever.
-
especially for people who don't use Reddit.
If you were only going to frequent one of {Reddit,Buzzfeed}, everyone involved would be better off if you chose Reddit.
-
http://reddit.com/r/cableporn loads faster and has been around for years.
EDIT:
-
Oh great. Buzzfeed. "Hey look, we stole a bunch of images from Google Image Search, typed maybe a single sentence of content, and now we're calling it 'journalism' and serving up ads."
Not as bad as ebaums or 9gag, but fuck these guys up the ass.
-
So every other single website that has adverts and does the same should stop too?
Yes. Is that a trick question? Or... what?
If Buzzfeed at least attributed their image (to the ACTUAL PHOTOGRAPHER not "imgur") and added more than a sentence's worth of additional content to the article, I might concede. But as-is? They're scum.
There are worse scum out there, but Buzzfeed is pretty bad.
-
what are adverts?
Oh look, Blakeyrat's First Law springing into action there, it's been awhile.
-
I remember Blakeyrat's Second Law but it's been so long since the First Law was quoted, I've forgotten it...
-
-
which one is your frist law again?
"You people running adblockers are robbing web site operators raw!"
-
-
Surely you mean 'four legs good, two legs bad'?
-
you have a lot of laws....
There are two.
which one is your frist law again?
I was going to joke and say it's "shut the fuck up, accalia" but then I thought about all the mod warnings so I won't.
It's something about, "any mention of an ad on a webpage in a thread will result in some person who runs an ad blocker to make some snarky condescending unfunny, 'there are ads on the web?' joke."
But it's more pithy.
It has nothing to do with the ethics of ad blocking, that's a different argument. It's just me being sick of seeing that fucking stupid "joke" on web forums.
And please keep in mind, anything FrostCat says about me or my opinions is pure 100% unfiltered bullshit lies.
-
Yes, but some rats are more Blakey than others.
-
So human behavior at arranging things finally caught up to the efficiency already existent in their biology.
-
And please keep in mind, anything FrostCat says about me or my opinions is pure 100% unfiltered bullshit lies.
Blakey is a nice person who never yells at people.
Your move.

The "exact same spot" in two completely different cabinets.
Could still be the exact same spot, depending on how big that spot is.

Meanwhile at the LHC:

How does a mathematician catch a lion? He sits inside a cage and defines himself as being outside. Thus the lion has to be inside.

“I’ve got that lion exactly where I want it.” (That is, not on the same side of the cage as the mathematician.)
