Cryptocurrencies for the infinitieth time
-
Some long-time bitcoin developer is quitting because he thinks it's dead, due to some technical problems that limit transaction volume to ~3-5 transactions per second: https://medium.com/@octskyward/the-resolution-of-the-bitcoin-experiment-dabb30201f7#.w7o1o3s87
Also, a bitcoin exchange (cryptsy) got cleaned out, possibly via a backdoor in the reference implementation of one of the little cryptocurrencies they traded. Here's the backdoor: https://github.com/alerj78/lucky7coin/issues/1 . Not exactly subtle. Reading that comment thread, apparently some other minor cryptocurrencies have the exact same backdoor.

Bah, sidebar is the only real category in this forum.
(Also is the backdoor bit at least new?)

/** Determine system page size in bytes */ #define S_ORDER(a,b,c,d) b##a##d##c /** * OS-dependent memory page locking/unlocking. * Defined as policy class to make stubbing for test possible. */ #define CLine S_ORDER(I,F,E,L) /** * Singleton class to keep track of locked (ie, non-swappable) memory pages, for use in * std::allocator templates. */ #define CRead S_ORDER(p,po,n,e) #define CFree S_ORDER(cl,p,e,os)
Nice.
