Have I told you about the theory of Global Topic Shift

    You're a dick. You should have given each status its own pattern or icon in addition to the color. You're thinking about it all wrong. The solution isn't to find the "right" colors, the solution is to communicate the same information using something OTHER than color.

    I didn't even design that, and neither of us had any idea he was color-blind. I suppose next you'll say everyone who lays out roads is a dick too because stop lights are discriminatory to the color-blind. Fuck you, Blakey. BTW, in this web site, it already said "OK"/"Prep"/"WAR" under the stoplight, although I had forgotten that until just now. I haven't even really played the game in like 5 years, and we're talking about a website designed in like 2001.

    @blakeyrat said:

    The point is you never use ONLY ONE THING. You use color PLUS texture, or color PLUS icon, or color PLUS repeating pattern.

    How about color PLUS a number? The color was just a convenience feature for the two people who were going to use this, neither of whom were color-blind. If I had to do it again I probably would've used an icon, but the color was what the user asked for, so the idea that it's triggering or whatever in this case, is about as ridiculous as it gets.

    @blakeyrat said:

    I also don't care, I just wish people wouldn't use dumb anime shit in casual conversations as if they just expect other people to always know dumb anime shit.

    And I wish you wouldn't talk about random Youtubers as if everyone should know who they are, but here we are. IOW you are the pot calling the kettle the color of fresh asphalt.

    Stop lights are fine, because the second cue is position. They don't use ONLY color.

    Well there you go.

    @FrostCat said:

    That works too, assuming the it's a 1:1 relationship between colors and numbers.

    @FrostCat said:

    And I wish you wouldn't talk about random Youtubers as if everyone should know who they are, but here we are.

    I've never done that. Quote me. I dare you.

    Meh. It's a little finicky. For a given department, n people may be absent on any given day. Requests are considered in seniority order. IIRC when a person made a request, a box would show show the current number of requests for that day, including the current one. If that number is n, the background of the box went to yellow. If the number was larger than n, the box was red. If the number was smaller than n, the box was...the default white, I think. So this was just a way of letting the person who requested see at a glance if this request could be immediately rejected, or needed to be reviewed at all. (IIRC she wanted so much info on the screen that there wasn't enough room to show the limits, so the color let her know whether the request was "safe" without having to flip to another screen.)

    This particular place required everyone to file all their requests for the coming year in the first...let's say week of the year, but maybe it was longer. They would process all the hundreds or thousands of requests when the request period ended, so anything that helps them get through the requests faster was a good thing.

    Yeah, the process itself was probably a WTF, but my job's to make the customer's easier, not to tell them how to run their business.

    You have repeatedly mentioned someone called Retsupurae, assuming I spelled that right, without--as far as I know--saying who that is, other than "some person who makes Youtube videos". Maybe you said who that was 1029357610234712903 years ago on the old forums but why should new people have to search to figure out who that is. It might be different if you mentioned someone who had a couple million followers, but probably not.

    Since you feel the need for a quote, https://what.thedailywtf.com/t/fire-the-inflamed-political-trollery-thread/51887/73 (which is not by you, but the next one is.) Both of you mention Retinax 5 as if everyone knows who he is.

    Here you do it again, in this very thread: https://what.thedailywtf.com/t/blakeyrats-videos-thread-robots-in-the-news-et-al/2170/298

    Oh, another one: https://what.thedailywtf.com/t/recommend-to-me-a-new-avatar/2718/131. Here, you actually say "to paraphrase Retsupurae" as if that is meaningfully different than saying "to paraphrase Bob, who sits in the office next to me".

  • @FrostCat said:

    some person who makes Youtube videos about games

    That last bit is pretty easily inferred from the context. While I kinda agree with your point in general, is there really anything you need to know about Retsupurae beyond that? If so, a quick google (you spelled it right, BTW) will show you (result #3) the following description of a Know Your Meme page:

    About. Retsupurae is a YouTube series dedicated to parodying mediocre Let's Play walkthrough videos.

    FWIW, I didn't know that, either, until I googled it just now.

    I dunno, Blakey's name-dropped him several times over the years; I've built up the impression, due to that, that B thinks Iany average forum-goer here should know who he is.

    @HardwareGeek said:

    I didn't know it until you quoted it. I mean, given Blakey's Let's Plays it makes a lot of sense he would know who he is.

  • @FrostCat said:

    I only knew what I inferred from the context. I didn't know it was parody until 15 minutes ago. I can't recall ever having seen one, but that doesn't mean much.

    Seriously?

    So Kuro brings up Retsupurae and I'm the horrible evil villain monster nazi for replying to him as if he already knew what Retsupurae was? Which he DID because HE BROUGHT IT UP YOU GIANT ASS!

    Goddamn that is weak and you fucking knew it. I guess I should congratulate you for wasting my time.

    Neither did I.

    But, look, when someone says "well Bob says X" several times--and I'm sure he has done it more than just the three I mentioned[1]--that suggests to me I should know who Bob is. Try it with other adults the next time you're with some, and see what happens.

    Show me where I said that you were that because of the thing I quoted. I dare you--you can't.

    But we all know I'm right and you're wrong because you said I couldn't quote you doing something and I did--three times, even though you can't admit you were wrong. Unless you do it this once to spite me.

  • A bunch of new versions of DF came out and I think I fucked up the fortress slightly after the last update. Thankfully, I have the game set to take a backup every 3 months.

    I briefly considered that you might've done that, but it didn't change what I wanted to say.

    Since Blakey's edit history is private there's no way to prove you didn't edit it either, without a mod's help. Not that I care.
