Some old HDD analysis tool running on a refurbished computer we got for a client. Apparently, the thing works well, I don't know. What I do know is that it seems to scan the negative space on the drive as well.
If I store some files in those negative cylinders, does that count as encryption?

I once have a system with Win2k but forgotten to enable 48-bit LBA. It happily allows me to write near 240GB data on a 250GB harddisk.
Of course since Win2k no longer store files in sequential sectors like it were in DOS age, so in the end we get a harddisk with around 137GB (didn't checked, but it should be as that's theoretical limit) filled with random blocks of data.
