Meanwhile, I had the opposite problem trying to force the Win 10 update to take on my resource-starved Acer tablet. The installer claims that it can use a non-C:\ drive to store the update files, but this is a filthy lie. It will download all 2GB of install data, then the update fails and it wipes alll 2GB of downloaded data before you can try again. After 3 rounds of this bullshit, in the end I had to disable hibernation and set the pagefile to 512MB to make enough space on C:\ to install from there which actually did work. Total install time, somewhere around 8hours, and I'm going to love my next internet bill when that arrives. Twats.

Why not use the media creation tool to download once and create a disk to upgrade with? Oh well, at least you got it.

I actually upgraded to Windows 10 last Thursday.
Made sure to turn off all the tracking options in a Custom install.
I still had to tweak a few settings after that, but things are running OK otherwise.
Docking an app to one side of a monitor makes it bring up a display of all windows to dock on the other side of said monitor. I still need to figure out where to turn that off as I quite often dock browser windows to half screen even when there's nothing on the other half.

I believe you want to change "When I snap a window, show what I can snap next to it." I remember changing it on my desktop when I updated it over the weekend, and probably need to on my laptop (which I updated a few months ago).

The privacy (or lack there of)-related things were the main thing I disabled and, in case I suddenly turn stupid later, I can always turn them back on.
The only other things I've changed were to make the Search box an icon and make it so Windows Updates aren't being sent out to random people from my PC1.
1 Yes, that's a thing, and yes it's enabled by default. I changed it to be restricted to my local network.

Yeah, when running through the "custom settings" or whatever they label that tiny link, it's a pretty safe bet that anything set to "on" can safely be set in the "off" position without losing anything of value.

My old laptop had it, but only on one specific port which was labelled as such.

There is if I factory reset it or look for info on how to reinstall the bloatware that lets me control it, but that software is long gone and any remnants were wiped in the Win10 upgrade since I chose not to keep any software.

Maybe, I'd have to check. I know for a fact there is no option to enable hardware virtualization despite the hardware supporting it - apparently that's intentional.

Usually not on all ports, and there may be a BIOS setting. My (desktop motherboard) booklet specifically indicates which ports have standby power.
