Ignore gender inequality, sexist. Try to solve gender inequality, sexist.

I suppose it would be even worse if you tried to have a "contraceptives" hack-a-thon.
Oh how patronizing.
Yes, let's leave all the decisions on how that technology should work to men, because women are too superior to work on something that should matter to them...

We've got multiple topics for this already - you're appropriating the flamewars!!

I just.... hate arrogance.... in any form.
I hate it from a conservative, I hate it from a liberal.
Hate it from a poor person, hate it from a rich person. There's just no need.
Pride always loses. You eventually fail and look like an idiot.
Humility never loses.

it would be so much better if there was one giant topic for this sort of thing that i could mute and be done with it.

Yeah... if only we had at least two big topics...

Yeah... if only we had at least two big topics...
We have at least 3. One is in the Lounge.

"At least 2" covers "at least 3".
Stop appropriating Maths.

Depends on how you view the funny stuff and status threads....

You'll have to explain now why hair dryers should matter to women (or anyone).

Clothes dryers matter a lot to me.
So I could see how someone who needs their hair dried quickly without waiting on the sun, would care about hairdryers

Not sure a hairdryer could fix that mess ;P

Not sure a hairdryer could fix that mess
I am pretty sure that a hair dryer caused it. Maybe he is using a flamethrower for a hair dryer?
-
This outrage is stupid.
Hair dryers are pretty cool.
-
Maybe he is using a flamethrower for a hair dryer?
Or a hairdryer as a flamethrower

Many good questions generate some degree of opinion based on expert experience, but answers to this question will tend to be almost entirely based on opinions, rather than facts, references, or specific expertise.
-
Worse yet, if there was some girl who looked at this and thought, "Oh, science is cool", she'll read this comment and immediately feel like an idiot and "fuck science, it's full of rude people".

I was thinking one of those leaf blower thingies.
Memo to self: learn English words. They are useful.

I use a hair dryer a lot. Especially in the winter. You can get pretty cold after getting out of the shower. Also, sometimes I want to dry my beard.

Then get a beard dryer and stop appropriating womens appliances.
-
So.... women should work on hairdryer science because it's patronizing to men who want to dry their beards?
-
Then get a beard dryer and stop appropriating womens appliances.
What? My wife can use it when I'm not.
Actually, after actually watching the video I'm calling Upulie Divisekera (upulie) out for her fancy laboratory privilege.

How kind of you to share your white man privilege.
Went to a museum of early American settlers.
Found out that the whole sharing bath thing is not completely accurate.
The social rule was, every adult would have their own bath, every person under 14 shared one bath.

Thanks?
-
No, just something on my mind.
The historical narrative of gender roles is somewhat exaggerated for the quality of life parts.
The roles obviously existed, but they weren't as exaggerated as some believe.
-
For that small percentage who even cared and could afford to have baths?
-

That's a good idea. If I ever leave Phoenix.

Trump's Hairdryer -> Trump Nominates for presidency -> SJW infestation begins to balance the craziness on the other side

Is it appropriating if a man has long hair?
Not that I use a hair dryer normally--takes too long.

Is it appropriating if a man has long hair?
I'm sure someone could claim that something is being appropriated.
Also Discourse is trying to appropriate my reply.

Mine's 2000W, but given that the circuit breakers in my house are just waiting for a power surge to trip, maybe that's for the better.

After running for a couple of months more or less unnoticed online, IBM's "hack a hairdryer" campaign suddenly attracted a barrage of criticism by Twitter users who called it patronising and sexist - and the company has now apologised.
Â
A video created by American computing giant IBM aimed to "reengineer misperceptions about women in tech, and to focus on what really matters in science". Women working in science and tech were asked to "hack a hair dryer", then share their work on the IBM website.
Â
The video was posted on YouTube in early October. It failed to grab much social media attention at the time, but on Monday a number of scientists, most of them female, started tweeting their reactions. Unfortunately for IBM, most of them were not positive.

Went on the Leu home tour at Harry P Leu Gardens here in Orlando. Learned all kinds of interesting things, starting with the fact that the second floor was divided in two: one side for the kids, one for the parents, because kids were seen and not heard.
A few other interesting things:
-
The full kitchen was not in the house originally; to keep the house cool it was in a separate building
-
The walkway between the full kitchen and the warming kitchen in the house was called the "whistle walk"--they made the servants whistle while walking across to ensure they didn't eat any of the food
-
The counters in the warming kitchen at that time were stainless steel--that way you could tell the servants were working (clink...clink...clink)

"Your hairdryer is fixed. A cure for cancer, and nanotechs are still not available. Good job!"
Reminds me of the quote "Women only think of simple things. ... like men."
-
Is it appropriating if a man has long hair?
Well, then you're obviously appropriating women's hairstyle, you chauvinistic, misogynist cunt! How dare you wear long hair without any real understanding of the culture! You should be ashamed, you walking garbage of a human be...
...oh wait.

I was speaking hypothetically. For all you know I shave my head.
Besides, Jesus had long hair.
