Do topics really get closed after 61 minutes of inattention
-
Just noticed this on a couple of threads from last night;
Is this a thing? That threads with no replies after one hour get closed?
I must have have missed that "awesome feature" previously...
-
Were they in One Post? All threads in that category auto-close.
-
It's a new social gamification feature. You need to watch your topics once each hour so that they don't wither and die, and when they've grown enough you can harvest them for XP and Gold Coins.
-
Set to 1h in One Post, 14 days in Flags/Badges and sometimes in other threads by TL4+ users.
-
Ah ok.
Still not sure I get the point - why would you want to create a topic that gets auto-closed? To ward off dissent?

The
One Post
category was created for testing stuff. To keep it out ofbugs
, and so those not interested could simply block the whole category. One of the things I wanted to test was autoclosing topics based on category, so I set it to an hour in that one.
Took a while (quite a while) for a bug related to it to turn up. (The autoclose caused bookkeeping to happen and the bookkeeping on /t/1000 was... problematic. )

In addition to what's already been posted, sometimes the topic is only relevant for a certain time window.
For instance, if there's going to be an event on a certain date and you create a topic to discuss what you think will happen (e.g. who will win a debate or election or Hollywood award or a new product rollout or something) then you may want the topic to auto-close after the event, since after that time, there's no longer a need for speculation. Ongoing discussion (e.g. talking about what actually happened) could take place in a separate (maybe linked) topic.

Is merely being a distraction a form of microagression? If so, then no, there's no micro about WTDWTF.
