Hey Lunixy people, ESR is a huge gamergater

  • Congratulations, your heroes are all fucking terrible people.

  • area_deu

    Who is ESR?

  • :belt_onion:

  • Shitty OSS advocates who go to conferences and try to avoid being honeytrapped into sexual harassment lawsuits instead of spending their money trying to cure malaria.

As usual, @blakey, your reading comprehension is a few tomatoes short of a greek sallad -- or this was an even worse troll than your usual stuff.

  • @Mikael_Svahnberg said:

being honeytrapped into sexual harassment lawsuits

I suppose they also try to avoid Klingons with disruptor pistols.

Oh wait. Neither of those are things that exist.

  • BINNED

When I was training to be a teacher I was warned not to be alone in a room with a student unless there were big windows that anyone passing could see through. It's shitty and horrible, but false accusations are something people have to be aware of.

Of course, these guys sound like they are using a single unverified report of honeytrapping to justify assuming all people reporting sexual assault are maliciously lying, which is obvious bullshit and makes them dicks

  • Grade A Premium Asshole

    @blakeyrat said:

One of those things exists. Whether or not they are targeting OSS big wigs, I have no idea. But people are honeytrapped in to such things all the time. It is a thing. It happens. It is shitty.

  • who is esr and what has this to do with gamergate?:honey_pot:

  • @Polygeekery said:

Hey! Here's an idea: provide some evidence.

  • Or why don't you provide some evidence to the contrary? As usual, you expect us to do the burden of proof for you.

Still no relation between the linked text and the ORiginal Post though...

I wasn't the one who made the first assertion, I am not doing your work for you. Who are you? The idiot Fox?

He said sjws are terrible people. Isn't that the link?

  • @blakeyrat said:

Neither of those are things that exist.

I was trying to call your bullshit on the idea that false rape allegiations don't exist, but then some article crosslinked this:

    http://jezebel.com/its-2015-and-men-are-still-being-pussies-about-eating-1739032791 (content NSFW)

    and I got kinda... distracted.

(but you might want to edit those blatant lies at Wikipedia).

    Who is ESR?

ESR is Eric Raymond, a gun-totin' libertarian wingnut responsible for any amount of half-baked political dickheadery along with The Cathedral And The Bazaar, maintaining the Jargon Files, How To Ask Questions The Smart Way and various other oft-quoted bits and bobs. You've probably read at least some of his output even if you have no clue who he is.

  • Oh right. This forum's full of gamergaters too.

    Fuuuck.

  • @blakeyrat said:

Congratulations, your heroes are all fucking terrible people

    You are not my hero

  • You forgot the sjws!

  • This is basic advice that I've always tried to follow in a professional travel environment:

The short version is: if you are any kind of open-source leader or senior figure who is male, do not be alone with any female, ever, at a technical conference. Try to avoid even being alone, ever, because there is a chance that a “women in tech” advocacy group is going to try to collect your scalp.

It's hard to say what you're upset about, because you got triggered by thinking about gamergate, but I'll assume that's what set you off.

    @Mikael_Svahnberg said:

Pretty much all of the sexual harassment training I've ever had recommended not getting into these situations. I don't think they specifically mentioned honeytrapping, but the advice is the same. Maybe we just need to teach women not to sue? :trophy:

  • It's the conspiracy theory that there's this evil organization of "SJW"s who seek to DESTROY OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE by making false accusations at conferences. It's the most fucking ridiculous conspiracy theory I've ever heard. With, natch, zero supporting evidence.

I'd rather the guy go on rants about the secret Jewish gold in the basement of the World Trade Center, which got trucked to the new world order the day before 9/11. That might actually be a more sensible conspiracy theory.

  • @blakeyrat said:

this evil organization of "SJW"s who seek to DESTROY OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE by making false accusations at conferences.
Nope, some SJWs are just fucking upset over the fact that the vast majority of successful open source projects are run by men (what's more frightening, white men) who are not afraid to said the word fuck where the word fuck is due, and "womyn" failed to produce anything remotely useful to date. Conclusion? Ban these men!

You are the most sheltered person on the internet.

    @blakeyrat said:

Like, say, the insanity that happened when some guys at a pythong conference joked about forking a repo?

    1. Linus Torvald is accused of sexual assault
    2. Nobody questions if the claim is genuine because of his aggressive nature... and well he is sweaty and linuxy.
    3. Linus is jailed and linux development is improved
    4. ... PROFIT!!

  • Look, if the concern is: "everybody is out to get me!" it's AT BEST paranoia, and at worst the stupidest of all stupid conspiracy theories. (Which are usually based around paranoia.) Either way it's a result of MENTAL ILLNESS and not clear-thinking.

  • @blakeyrat said:

    Well, probably not.

But if you think there's absolutely no way a woman would try to get her 5 minutes of fame by kicking up a fuss about some famous person touching her tits, you're just as delusional, only the other way.

  • @blakeyrat said:

Your post makes a lot of sense if you are naive and refuse to accept evidence that you disagree with or lack the ability think about multiple things and make logical connections.

Touching ESR's tits = fame? No.

I am done with this thread, I regret posting content to this forum, etc etc, you've heard it before, Mute.

  • Does that mean we won and @b lost?

  • @Maciejasjmj said:

Seriously. There's just as many stupid girls as there are stupid guys. Stupidity is not sexist. It is also not a conspiracy

  • we honor you with :badger: :trolleybus:

Well, as a guy, you might have a harder time pushing "Taylor Swift pinned me to the wall and tried to suck my dick against my will" as a tearjerker story.

  • And if this is a serious concern to you, do something about it, travel in packs. That's what we tell a lot of women now days. Don't wear such slutty clothes dude. You were asking for it

You should be able to pull it off, though, being a writer and all.

Which is... pretty much what the ESR post is about. Of course, sprinkled with ESR having the social skills of a thermonuclear device, but the advice is sound.

poppycock! I helped them come for the sjws and then had afternoon tea and crumpets with them.

  • He just never had touched a woman's boob in his life, so he's highly skeptical how that can even happen.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

    @boomzilla said:

Remember that guy who got into an elevator with a skeptic at a convention, asked her if she'd like to go back to his room, and took "no" for an answer, but she went on a public tear about how creepy he was anyway?

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

The Catholics have a concept where if you keep trying to confess the same sin, but never try to improve yourself, you can be denied forgiveness, because you're just abusing the system.

You clearly don't regret posting content to this forum, you just don't like it when you don't win.

Most things in the world are run by men. I wonder why...

  • So anyone who believes a bad story (whether true or false) about women, related to video games or not, is now a gamergater.

Those definitions are getting broader all the time

I thought Catholicism was all about "doesn't matter what you do as long as you feel really guilty. Even if what you did wasn't bad"

  • @blakeyrat said:

    Touching ESR's tits = fame?

Your reading comprehension is really lacking.
    He said exactly the opposite.

  • No, that's more like some kinds of Protestantism. In Catholicism, you have to confess your sins to a priest to get absolution, and then the sin is washed away by the power of Jesus hearing your heartfelt confession. The priest can "deny" absolution, but it's really more like him advising you that Jesus isn't going to be happy with you if you keep doing the thing you keep doing. It's Jesus that forgives, not the priest. The priest just does the earthly administrivia.

  • @Maciejasjmj said:

"Sat on my face and told me to start licking" would be more likely?

  • Another incoherent "I-hate-gamergate-but-cant-stop-talking-about-it" post by @blakeyrat. If he was an anti-gay preacher, I'd be expecting him discovered with a male prostitute's dick in his mouth any day now. Or I guess, in his case, with a basement full of Sarkeesian publicity photos with their eyes burned out, or whatever he imagines gamergate to be.

  • @PleegWat said:

and then she pushed me to the flo... oh wait, sorry, you were saying? Got a little... lost in my thoughts there, yeah.

He also assigns your penance. So, yes, there's generally more to it than just saying sorry. Granted, for normal stuff it's usually saying some prayers or whatever. Or it was when I was kid. Been a while since I've been in the booth.
