The DRAAAAAAMA without warning!" thread

  • Pist your dramatic quotes or clips from series with minimal context here.

For those unfamiliar with the series (which I am guessing is everyone else here), Chase is thirty.

    Emily is fifteen.

    DRAAAAMA!

    O_o

    .....

    DUDE! NOT COOL!

there are some things that are off limit for a reason!

15 years difference when the older partner is 45 is WAY less creepy and not cool then when they are 30

  • Oops, I got Emily's age wrong, she's 17. Those two years are pretty important.

Still a big problem, though. Especially since they'd been dating on and off for two years before she dumped him IIRC.

it's still statutory though. At least in this jurisdiction the age of majority is 18.

  • It varies from state to state in the US, but most have gone to 18 now, yes. Even if it isn't statutory in their area now, it sure as hell was when she was 15.

    this too...

FEH! men and always thingking with what hangs between their legs...

  • Yeah... though oddly enough, Georgia doesn't technically have an age of consent, but (again, technically) non-marital sex is illegal, period. Not that that has ever stopped anyone. It is complicated, as the laws contradict themselves and there are a number of problems with them, but in practice the AoC is treated as 16 fo prosecuting child molestation - in most cases.

What's the minimum age to marry? That would then be a de facto age of consent

  • Not sure, I'm guessing 16. As I said in the edited post above, the laws aren't very consistent, so there's a lot of confusion on the issue.

  • Funny story. I almost castrated myself the other day doing kettle bell swings. I've been thinking a lot about what hangs between my legs recently. Not exactly my finest moment but always good for a giggle.

What's even funnier is in Ireland the age of consent is 17 but porn is rated 18. So you get down and dirty at 17, film it but if you dare watch it you can be arrested.

  • kills Dumbledore

Similar in the UK where it's 16 and 18. You can be having sex for two years before you're allowed any masturbatory aids.

Also, I'm pretty sure filming it in either country would count as child porn (see also: teenagers prosecuted for child porn they've taken and sexted to their partners)

Meh, 15 is legal in Poland.

Filed under: get'em while they're young

  • The comic gets much less dramatic when you realize it's all made up.

Wrong. In most states (31 of 50) the age of consent is 16, same as most of the rest of the civilized world.

    @ScholRLEA said:

Wrong again. Georgia Code § 16-6-3. It seems pretty clear to me.

    http://law.justia.com/codes/georgia/2010/title-16/chapter-6/16-6-3/:

    (a) A person commits the offense of statutory rape when he or she engages in sexual intercourse with any person under the age of 16 years and not his or her spouse, provided that no conviction shall be had for this offense on the unsupported testimony of the victim.

  • In Canada, age of consent is 16, but there is also rules for child under 16 that have sex.

14-15 yo : The older partner is less than five years older than the younger partner.
12-13 yo : The older partner is less than two years older than the younger partner.

And the older partner is not in a position of authority, trust or exploitation toward the younger partner and the younger partner is not in a relationship of dependency with the older partner.

So if a 12 yo is having sex with an 13 yo, it is legal.
If a 14 yo is having sex with an 18 yo, it is legal.

  • I wouldn't open that can of worms. At least the legal age of consent (i.e. an adult can have consensual sex with someone of this minimum age, and no younger) is relatively clear and unambiguous in virtually every state (with the exception of Texas which appears to have some conflicting laws as to whether it's 17 or 18).

Many places have close-age exemptions (and of those places that do not, many will still refuse to enforce the statutory rape law if the two parties were close in age). I'd hazard to guess that most places either grant exemption if they're married or at least allow it as a valid defense against statutory rape charges (not against real rape charges, of course)... marriage generally is a whole separate issue with its own slew of confusing laws; usually there's a minimum age, but younger persons can sometimes marry with parental/guardian consent and/or a judge to authorize the marriage.

But as long as you stick to the broad, state-wide age of consent laws, there's relatively little ambiguity.

  • Why did his eyes disappear in the fourth panel? Is he like a mutant shape-shifter and it's hard to emulate human eyes so sometimes he sucks them back into his protoplasm to rest-up?

    I'm going with that.

EDIT: Also in panel two I think he screwed up how "arms" work. Oh you wacky protoplasmic shape-shifter! Soon you will learn to resemble human beings.

  • Ain't nothing going to top the drama of this XKCD:

  • What was the point of posting this soap-opera psycho drama bullshit? Why is anyone here supposed to care? You acknowledged none of us would know these characters so why would we be interested in what's happening to them? There's nothing compelling about what's happening here. And this shit has been written for 5 years?!

I just noticed "this" and "shit" are made of the same letters <- that's more revelatory than this comic.

Maybe you should stick to threads about LISP macros.

None of us know who the two pictured characters are (only one of whom is named), nor who any of the FIVE off-screen named characters are. Not only do I not give a shit, but I'd have to re-read that image multiple times just to understand what I'm not giving a shit about.

You're Doing It Wrong. You aren't supposed to read the pointless drama we post, you're supposed to add in your own favorite drama so the rest of us can make fun of it.

OST, you did get the 'point and laugh' part right, but you need to work on your follow-through.

It's a comic. Not an instruction manual. Who cares?

  • Chrissy Keenan, a UCLA senior, is the president of Bruin Consent Coalition, a campus group that works to raise awareness regarding sexual assault on campus. "When people know of me but they don't really know the work, they hear the term 'feminist' or 'sexual-violence prevention,' they think, 'super-extreme, bra-burning feminism,'" she explains, which often puts people on the defensive.

Keenan herself, though, sometimes finds it hard not to go on the offensive. She's so used to laying down the nitty-gritty details of consent that she's been known to open romantic interactions with a spiel that feels straight out of a student handbook.
    ...
She animatedly tells a story about a recent Tinder rendezvous:
    ...
"One time, I agreed to meet with this guy at 8 or 9 at night. Before we met, I said to him, 'This is the work I do, I know the chief of police ... so, don't try and get creepy; I know all my rights.' And five minutes later, he was like, 'Actually, I'm really not OK with how you just assume I'm a bad guy. And I get very bad vibes from that, so we shouldn't hang out anymore.'"
    ...
"I was in a rage. He was a total fuckboy about consent," she said.

LOL. Who could have imagined that threatening to call the Chief of Police on your partner would be a turn off?

  • Grade A Premium Asshole

The only good I take away from that story is that if she is that much of a cunt, she is unlikely to ever reproduce.

If she isn't the "PIV is always rape, OK?" chick, I bet they know each other.

Eh, just another chapter in the neverending "guys who won't date me on my terms are evil" book of drama.

Works the other way around, too.
